genuinely scary/disturbing movies for halloween?

i guess i'd call it mainstream, but the shining is my favorite of the genre.

REC, 24 days later and it's sequel, 24 weeks later, are good if you like zombies.

Audition is definitely disturbing...

I enjoy the fun Halloween/Horror movies in October, This was a list of some of the movies I watched this month. I recommend seeing Treak R Treat if u have not.

rec 2 is out, i'd check that out. paranormal activity has already been mentioned, i guess blair witch if you haven't seen that one. "them" and "the others" as well. also, for japanese horror, i'd go for dark water.

there are also some pretty good x-files episodes you might want to consider...

PA has a second part by now as well. Dunno if it's any good. Also: Devil. Didn't see it yet but the Trailer is promising!

it's nowhere near as good as the first one. it's still worth watching but all the characters are so stupid and i didn't really like the story much.

besides REC1 and everything else already mentioned, i'd say Kairo (aka pulse) and Noroi (aka the Curse). Antichrist is also meant to be extremely disturbing but i haven't got round to watching it yet.

Watched PA2 and it's a downgrade from Part 1 in my opinion. It might make sense to watch the two in a straight row but the second one ends so abrupt it makes no sense.

Paranormal Activity or Paranormal Activity 2 if you want to go to the cinema.

rented the 2010 version of Nightmare on Elm Street last night.... was pretty good. I find good horror movies are so rare today. Most of the good ones are like from the 80s...

Never saw the original. All I know is the last scene in the movie is the only time cinema has managed to get my adrenaline running and heart pounding the first time I saw it.
