I remember trying this stuff with Minos a few years ago. It totally doesn't work.... I tried a bunch of different ones, LSD, ecstasy, heroin..... also the kids in the news report are doing it wrong. you're supposed to turn off the lights and lean back and close your eyes while listening to the wav files. Anyway, it's useless. The only thing it did was waste a couple hours of my life.

ROFL I listened to these about a year ago. Originally I was looking for white noise audio files and ended up on some forum with a huge thread about "audio drugs." It was a huge torrent file...over 10GB of files named shit like LSD, cocaine, marijuana, etc.

Long story short they're noise and don't do anything but give you a headache. You know what does work though? This: http://simplynoise.com/

I fall asleep to the brown noise almost every night. I have a bunch of rain/thunder/ocean MP3s too.

immediately thought of the brown note

edit: although upon listening, it is quite soothing. I'd probably fall asleep at my desk if I left it on

I hear those sensory deprivation chambers actually do work even though they sound really stupid.

What I REALLY want though is one of those personal swedish indoor/outdoor saunas. I used one a few months ago and I could live in that thing. It's the climate version of what brown noise does to my brain.

If I could get away with listening to my drugs instead of paying for and becoming addicted to them I'd be there in a second.

@ OP: Americans... Americans never change... they really take the concept of appointing a punching bag/scapegoat for the problems in their society way too far.

Did you just make your generalization of Americans based on the movie "anger management"?

Nah, partial analysis of extremist Christian groups in the US. Don't worry, I know too well that that's far from the actual truth.

In comparison with the Swiss and German media I'm acquainted with, I'd say the tendency towards "alerting journalism" isn't as strong as it is in the US media and some special communities (you know... Christians...).

Not funny, that made me so sad. Especially because those sounds are completely useless indeed. If it ever worked, i guess it can be best compared to teenagers getting "drunk" on alcohol-free beer (cause they think it's normal beer)

I saw news clips of German news when there was a school shooting a couple years ago. Was just like American news except not in English, and somewhat fewer "What do YOU think" segments.

I'm pretty sure you've read about those cases in the US, where D&D was blamed for murder, suicide and corruption of the youth with satanic influence and what not as well. The hunt for scapegoats is happening all over the world, all the time (just think of those people who blame Obama for an accident that was a giant oil firm's fault etc.), it's just that in the US, journalists, religious groups and concerned $placeholder like to do that a lot.
