I feel dirty saying this. But RE5 is kinda good. I got it on the steam sale with my friend as we needed a new coop game. And we're having... fun.

Even though it has the dumbest writing in the world, I mean proper stick your balls into a vice stupid. Quarter of the way into the game and the characters have no idea whats going on and a thing made of all I can say with certainty was tar and treacle pops up into view that wants to eat me and the black girl goes "Oh my god! What's that!" ...Jesus. Is that all they could come up with? Not something like "Holy shit! A thing! Shoot it!" A ridiculous FOV. Retardedly long cut-scenes, I could only assume that the game didn't want me and my friend to cramp its style so slapped our hands away from the controls and made us watch. And the stupidest inventory I have ever seen.

    But I like it.

I hear RE4 is way better, but it's not on steam so meh. Plus I heard it was a terrible port.

Get a console man, it's worthy it =)

RE4 is indeed a must play to anyone who loves and works with video games. Its core mechanics revolutionized current gen action games to say the least!

Cutscenes on RE5 are great, they used very advanced techniques for mocap and shit. It is a all-around good game, but RE4 was a bit better.

You need to get a console, you're missing out on some good titles.

re 4 is the lighning in a bottle i play through it on a regular basis that game never gets old and it still LOOKS AWESOME way better than 90% of the titles coming out today

i think the re 4 third person control evolution/revolution chart flows something like this

    re4 ---> gears ----> everyone

I played RE5's demo on my PS3 and hated it, and then played it again in local coop with my brother and loved it. The second part where you fight the chainsaw guy especially, it was a good time trying to plan a strategy on the fly to fight the dude while avoid getting our heads chopped off. It's one of those few unfortunate things that PC never really gets. Thankfully however in a vast majority of cases most console games aren't getting it anymore either,

Also Cold Fear was a better game than RE4. Basically the same type of shooter except a) No escorting, b) AWESOME STORM GRAPHICS, c) Good PC port. I think it may have been the first game I played with per-pixel character lighting. I remember being very impressed by how the main character was lit.

Never cared much for RE games but dude get a console! You miss out on some of the best games. PC gaming is only a shadow of what it used to be.

Well, you said it yourself: Everything good in RE5 was done better in RE4 already. But I hope this inspires you to check out other awesome console games in the decades you have missed.

Yeah man, until this generation I was totally a PC guy but it's now impossible to defend the PC as a quality gaming platform. Not that I don't still enjoy games like BC2 on the PC (probably the only game since TF2 I'd say is worth bothering with), but as a gamer I couldn't imagine not having consoles and missing out on the amazing games that've come out this generation.

I dunno how you go from "Can't defend the PC as a quality gaming platform" to "Can't miss out on consoles", there seems to be some space in there. Personally, while I never bother to "Defend" a particular platform, I justify my devotion to the PC with quality exclusive experiences like The Void, Space Rangers 2, and being able to hit shift + tab and look at porn without even having to quit TF2.

Not quite scraping the bottom of the barrel with your foray into the console world, but you're not exactly skimming the good stuff off the top either.

I still like the PC because it's my favourite platform for RTS and FPS games (though the inevitable spread of Wiimote-esque control systems severely challenges that), but as a gaming platform it's shit. Many games are rigged with insane DRM, ports are sloppy at best, the cost-to-performance value can't even touch that of the PS3/360, and there's practically nothing in the way of compelling exclusives. When the odd game does things right (TF2, BC2) it's fantastic, but that's like saying swimming in a sea of smashed milk bottles is good because you occasionally find a drop of milk.

As a former PC zealot it pains me to say that PC gaming is shit, but I honestly think anyone who says otherwise has to be delusional.

    Is it really?

I got RE5 as well, was a bit off-putted with the controls and camera control but i absolutely loved it after ~1hour of 'struggle'.

I like the fact that they kind of let go off the anime-inspired design which i could see on some feeds from RE4. But on the other hand somehow i cant stand how unproportional the main character of RE5 is

Just get RE4 for PC and download a texture pack some dude made for the game. But play it with a controller.

I don't know why tho, I first tried RE4 for PC, and I only managed to play the first level. I thought, what a horrible game, this is not resident evil.

But a few years later I bought it for PS2 and oh man, was I glad I got it. It's an awesome game, you just need to give it some time for it to grow into you.

hehe I also thought the same: "WTF?? this is not Resident Evil!!" but then I loved it as an action game.

I still prefer the atmosphere, tension and music of the PSone games though =)

This music almost brings tears to my eyes:

RE2 was also a huge inspiration for me to go and learn 3d. Those environments look fantastic.
