Gunkanjima (Battleship Island) has a very unique setting.

Very nice references for anyone that wants some post-apocalyptic theme.

    Some highlights:

I present you with two awesome references Russia/Soviet related. The first is actually a blog from a guy who lives in Kazakhstan in the city of Atmaty, he documents all sorts of information about the various sights and structures around the city which are very heavily Soviet or post Soviet in design. You'll learn all about those diamond shaped concrete fences, balconies, bus stops, door bells, junction boxes and loads of other stuff with lots of photo examples. Very useful for anyone who's designing something from the Eastern Bloc.

The second is a random texture site I found with photos from all over Russia in high resolution:

If you want some kick ass wood textures go there, you have to make an account tho, and you probably can't use them directly but it's nice to use them as references :)

Did I ever mention how much I absolutely rely on reference photos?

Textures.com is also a nice site if you want to get into texturing.
