Love the first one so much. Think they are adding cut scenes and stuff for this one so I am unsure about how thats going to effect it.

I loved the first one. The atmosphere and story were top notch.
The sound man, the sound work on the first is fucking amazing! It's really creepy to ear the monsters crawling around on the vents randomly.
idem with me, I play this game without knowing anything about it and now it's one of my favourites

I guess it depends on whether you prefer monster-jumping-out-of-a-closet scary or atmospheric scary.
I was a big boy when I played Dead Space so Silent Hill is probably going to remain the scariest game I've played. Until I play it again without my nostalgia goggles anyway.
I bought Dead Space though steam and managed to play it for exactly 14 minutes. The FOV gave me such bad motion sickness I had to go and lie down for a bit afterwards. 
Playing scary music before an enemy shows up on screen ruins your scary moment. Laser cutting shit was dope though.

I like atmospheric horror, I found stalker's one is very oppressive but not scary to me, not as scarier as silent hill 3
Maybe beccause horror game is my favorite genre.
No game can beat Thief: The Dark Project in means of atmospheric anguish. Even in the human-enemies missions.

thief 3 did it, thief 2 had some very atmospheric levels (especially the last one), but the cradle in thief 3 just takes the cake.
