Jean-Paul Jarreau - Photographer

    Are you ready for the simplest site in existence? I started a making it with absolutely zero knowledge of what to do, so five days for this isnt too bad, right? I'd love to know some small things I could do to make it better besides changing the horizontal scroll, because I like that

    Not a fan of the horizontal scroll, but on this page I actually discovered there was one in less than 3 seconds, so that's got count for something!

    The content is amazing tho man, not an expert either but they look good to my eyes. That photo with the mask is fucking AAA quality.

    I like the simplicity of the website. The only thing I would say about the layout is that the site should start on either the photo or game gallery so people immediately see work.

    As far as the photo work goes I would do a tighter edit of the portraits and pull images:

    They are less interesting and don't fit as well, it makes the gallery look a little all over the place.

    The places gallery is good the way it is, it shows a consistent vision.

    I was thinking the same thing, but I dont know how I would have images load immediately while still having you think you are on the home page, any ideas? And what do you mean a "tighter edit"?

    Thanks. And horizontal scrolling seems to be all the rage with amateur photographers for some reason. I really want to figure out a way to make it horizontally scroll with a vertical scroll wheel, that would definitely help

    I would just not have any kind of home page. Its just a extra layer between your work and people viewing. By tighter edit I mean edit your photos down so that only your strongest and most consistent work is left. I was suggesting you remove those four from your portfolio.

    Oh okay, I see what you mean. I thought you meant I should remove those images and then go back and re-edit the rest of them in photoshop I do agree about your choices, I just wanted to have a little more work than I normally show because I have always been one to think "less is more". I think I should stick with that.

    and there is a site called the horizontal way devoted to showcasing horizontal layouts. I looked into it briefly so far and it involves adding anchor points through out your document and using a javascript.

    I know jack shit about this website stuff. Prior to making this website stuff a week ago, I knew absolutely nothing. But I do like that website you linked too, if not a bit too busy/wordy. I can try doing something along those lines.

    Okay so I definitely love the first three you mentioned here too much to remove them, but I definitely agree on the last you you posted, so I replaced it. I also haven't implemented all ideas posted here yet, but I probably will in due time.

    I also added a "bikes" section in the photography area. My art director father says it portrays my ability to continue a theme across a few photographs (it was his idea to add this) So what do you think?

    I find your categories for the different pics aren't visible enough too. Took me a while to realize there were different ones. Maybe align them somewhere else or somehow make them more visible? Other than that, your photographs are very appealing visually and have a nice consistent style to them.

    Yes, very nice photos. About the site I like that it's so simple, however I think you'd gain alot on using some css-styles for the links so they're not the IMO ugly default blue/purple etc.

    Great photos, very sharp and great lighting. It's always funny to see what kind of folks are riding fixies.

    A few things I might mention, once a user jumps into the photos section, your Game Design section drops off the face of the earth and may be forgotten. I don't know if that's intentional, but something I noticed . I might also suggest making your links run horizontally as well, since your site already goes in that fashion. Like Philip said if you change the colors of your links from the default blue/purple to something custom as well as do something like make the letters all caps with a different font, that may make the overall presentation a lot more professional with hardly any work. Once in the photo section, you may want to have the different links (People, Places, Bikes, etc) on a line below your main links (Photos, Design, Contact) to push the idea that there are sub-pages.

    only bummer with that stuff is it doesn't work with pgup, pgdn, home or end keys - which is not a huge issue but it's enough to make me go "blargh"

    i love the photos i wished i could take half way decent pictures ^^

    and jeee people scrolling is so 1998 its all about "panning" now !
