HL2 mod - "The 7th Sign" in need of mappers

    Hello members of Mapcore,

I am the project lead of a HL2 mod entitled "The 7th Sign". At the moment, we are in dire need of mappers. Our mod centers around the events of the Apocalypse (read: not post-apocalyptic), thus maps would be of the cityscape variety. Approximately half of the maps would be more run down, shelled-out city maps. Here is a small synopsis of the story:

A single-player/multi-player game, The 7th Sign is an action based first person shooter with a touch of stealth and strategy mixed in. The 7th Sign will take place in the present time, with a storyline that will captivate the player and give them insight into the past of the main character.

The player takes the role of Frank Dillinger, a preacher turned gunsmith, who is tapped by the "powers that be" to defeat the forces of Hell and save mankind from the Apocalypse. Along with Frank, the players will meet Demitri, a fallen angel who has sworn to fight against the demons to regain his place in Heaven. The survial of mankind relies on you. Can you survive the plagues of evil when the 7th sign is revealed?

Multiplayer will be focused on first, so we can establish the basic elements, polish them up and release them to a community for feedback and whatnot.

I am sorry that I am not a known individual in the modding society, as I feel that may negatively influence your opinions of our mod. However, I do have several workers that are more well known, at least more than I. Some of you may know of Schmung, Darkstorn, SolidSnake, Dru, PenguinWithAnM4a1, Bots and Chimp. They are a few of the member of this team, as are several others of their calibre. I spoke to one member of these forums, whom I cannot recall his name. He told me that I should make a post here to attempt to recruit some talented mappers (and perhaps one or two character modellers or a coder). He also told me to post some of our weapon models and conceptual art, therefore here is said content:

Interesting concept...but please, I beg of you, go for some unique weapons. The MP5 and the M4A1 have been done to death. It'd be exciting to see some very uniquely crafted gunsmithery by Mr. Dillinger on a set of pistols for the angel or some kind of blessed relics/swords/etc. Keep up the good work and good luck on your quest.

That would be the plan, yet we do not have any modelled as of yet. We do have conceptualized weapons, but I wasn't sure anyone would want to see them, as they are made in paint/photoshop, not handdrawn.

    [edit]

we have only pistols for Frank's custom arsenal thus far:

These are WIP concepts for the military weapons:

Some work of advice, dont play your mod to big in the beginning, a singleplayer and multiplayer mod, is tons of work, you will constantly be looking over the two teams workin on it... and it will take forever.

That's understandable. The plan is to work on multiplayer only first. One we have it out the door, we will shift to singleplayer. That way, we can develop "in the dark" so to speak on SP, while people have something to play.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to create the singleplayer part first, then base a multiplayer from that? Well, thats just me I guess.

Good luck, the models and concept look alright.

If we did that, development would stretch into years without any real releases to show for it. Most people in this world require instant gratification, without having to wait ages for it to come to them. Creating the multiplayer first will give us most of the basic codes, many of the animations, etc. that will be used in the singleplayer version.

id focus on MP first as well, but thats stretching into years anyway, at least for all the mods ive seen completed.

yes, but releases would be spread out into much closer incraments than sp "demos" would be.

You got a strong modelling\skinning team for sure.

But those concepts, they are mostly made by Drake right? Aren't those for NS?

Whats the timeline of this mod? (the year)

Hey st0lve. Found out you were on these forums yesterday.

The mod takes place 5-6 years into the future. Drake does concepts for the mod, though some will need to be tweaked a bit to make them less futuristic, but thats not a problem. The handdrawn ones are by Tonner on the TS forums.

So sorry for bumping this thread but I have both good and bad news. Good news being that I have gotten two mappers from this great community. Bad news being that we do need one or two character modellers quite depserately, as we have none...thank you again for taking your time to read this...
