It was a disaster. Do yourself a favor and never grow a beard. Everyone thought I was a hasidic jew.

so you went to a speed dating thing in order to not speed date?

    Seems reasonable.

I'd say half were over 28, half were over 35. Most of them were attractive. They were all way too bubbly to me. Everyone was either a publicist, worked at an ad agency or did something for a magazine. The only one I found interesting was a real bitch. At least she kept it real. She was an investment banker

What's the point of this speed datings, anyways? Find new friends? Find the love of your life? Or just get a one night stand?

Well, it's obviously about finding a girlfriend. I can't imagine it's that reliable though as you're basically forced to talk to people, whereas ordinarily you should both be attracted to each other before starting to chat. It must suck if you end up stuck with a real piece of shit for 10 mins.

Of the alternative dating routes, I'd probably go with online dating — at least then you won't get together without finding each other somewhat attractive.

Unless everyone was lying most of the women were trying speed dating for the first time. The "speed" was dictated by songs from some band that I can't remember the name of, so about 3 minutes.

I wasn't looking to hook up with anyone so I just frankly asked most of the women why they were there, how long they've been single, and what they were expecting to get out of it. I was the 6th guy down the line so I'd ask them "have you met your soulmate yet" or some variation on that and all of them seemed pretty indifferent about the whole thing. Maybe they were just saying that to not hurt my feelings and make me think I had a chance, who knows.

I blatantly said to 3 or 4 of them "do you like hip hop, do you like smoking weed" and they gave me this confused "drugs are bad" look . I stopped asking that question after a while but it was a really good way to root out the bitchy tight asses (most of them were bitchy tight asses). I was in a really really REALLY hipster neighborhood in Brooklyn and I don't know if you guys have hipsters where you live but you can probably imagine what it's like. All the women were probably waiting for me to start reciting poetry. The less attractive ones consistently had better personalities than the airheads. Luckily I know a decent amount about fashion and that kept the conversations going (Alexander McQueen dying yesterday and Brooklyn Decker being Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover didn't hurt (I love her)).

I was pretty drunk when I started and got progressively more drunk during the conversations so I don't remember many of the specifics. It was really satisfying to cut and shave my 5 month old beard when I got home.

If you don't like hip hop then you're not listening to good hip hop

Well congrats on trying the experience; it must be super hard to keep that part of mystery and make an interesting plot of ups and downs in the good rhythm, when you both know why you are here on that organized setting with a conclusion already in head.

You will never know which haystack is the right one until you've tried it, I guess

Online dating worked fine for me, you should try it.
