I only sound extremist because this is the internet and i took the stand of the christmas critic in this thread.

In reality i celebrate christmas with my family and i appreciate the fun time that my nephews have, the good food etc.

My comments reflect much more what my inner concious tells me regarding this holiday.

Hey, if nobody else has their trees up yet there's nothing wrong with filling the time with a nice argument!

Isn't that the spirit of christmas, though? Arguing? Or is that just my family ;D

the thing is with christmas and me is not so much that i don't celebrate it - i just stop paying attention to it. it's just winter waiting to pass, so i can get back to having better weather and not freeze my ass off everywhere i go. man i hate cold weather.

    Yeah, tell me about it...

It's a lot colder here in Germany, compared to Portugal. But, funnily enough, I felt a lot colder in Portugal then I do here! All the houses here have centralized heating, transports have AC, etc. I can wander around on my place in tshirt, when It's almost snowing outside, this might be normal for most of you, but for me It's new!

Oh man, I remember my room in Portugal, was cold as fuck around January and February! I remember being in the computer working with a bathrobe and a blanket on top of me, and with my hands and face freezing. Almost no apartments in Portugal have centralized heaters, people think they don't need it, but when It's cold, fuck it's cold.

Thing about the Portuguese winter, temperatures dont get as low as in northern countries, it doesn't snow or anything and the colder day of the year there is probably around 5ºc, but the cold there is very humid, making it possibly even worse.

Germans prefer the other way of sillyness. We don't have any AC in our homes for summer when temperatures can be tropical for weeks.

Fun fact: There is no biblical proof that Jesus Christ was born (neither is there any real proof that such a person existed, but nevermind that) on the 25th of Decembre - the date was defined ~150 years later to match with the annual winter solstice/midwinter fest which was celebrated in every culture in Europe and in Asia Minor (respectively in the northern hemisphere, basically). So Stepp, you can ignore the Christian background and just be happy that we haven't gotten into a nuclear war to cause a nuclear winter yet

But the reason why i'm against religion is because they interfere with my life and my freedom on a daily basis. We don't live in a "live and let live" society. We are surrounded by religious nuts who make laws for us based on their superstitious beliefs and there are religious groups who treaten our freedoms and values, who kill people daily in the name of their god etc..

Jesus (lol), I'm never going to Germany if its like that! Sounds like Afghanistan.

well in germany it's really dangerous... there's alot of these extremist atheists hunting you down if you tell you're a believer. i'm living on the run for a few years now...

You know how secular people hate religious people because they force their morals down our throats, making things like gay marriage and abortion illegal? Well religious people hate that on Christmas us secular people 1) get paid for nothing 2) get massively drunk 3) worship false idols in the form of expensive gifts 4) get time off 5) get REALLY drunk and defecate on the steps of a funeral home at 4am. So take your time off whoever you are and enjoy it, exploit it and revel in it. Religion has taken so much from us, now after 2,000 years we get to be conspicuously debaucherous on one of the most holy days of the calendar.

That said I find agnosticism and atheism to be equally as absurd and hilarious.

It's the state of the world. Not a single country in particular.

Sorry, I really can't see that.

Yes the world is fucked up at times, yes religion is fucked up at times. One is not the cause of the other and vice versa.

Anyway, Christmas lost its religious meaning to 99.9% of the population before we were even born, and probably our parents too.

    Scrooge.

    Edit:

Pic of tree tomorrow night when its up.

Heh, heh, you said ass. Ignor-ass-tic

(seriously though, that's an utterly wrong stem dux, shame on you )

An ignostic is someone who assumes that the definition of "god" is per se defective or incoherent, which is why he thinks that theism, atheism and agnosticism are all absolute rubbish, as all of them are actually based on a defective definition and do not try to clarify the question, "Who/What is god?".

I personally don't mind religious people unlike some uneducated atheistic extremists. Obviously, I dislike fanatics and people who evangelize. However, I'd rather see religion as something beautiful in private space, while it's just a tool on a political and societal level agitation, power and ethnopluralism.

I'd imagine the majority of people celebrating Christmas don't really follow Christianity at all... I mean seriously, who thinks about the whole Jesus birth thing?

Well, I do... but that's probably because I'm a Christian.
