    Just watched: Silent Running

The premise of this movie is really stupid: In the future what is left of Earth's forests is put on spaceships and shipped to... Saturn! Then one day for some reason the crew is ordered to nuke the forests and return to Earth, but one of the astronauts (who's a hippie really) rebels against that.

The acting is bad, the music is cheesy, the sets are so-so and the movie is boring most of the time. There still are some small nice ideas here and there however. I don't recommend this it but if you still want to check it out go ahead. The poster is cool at least.

Fun fact: The small drones are in fact played by paraplegics who would get into the specially made suits and walk around on their hands.

    Rating: 5/10

They do! Just look up Alamo Drafthouse posters... http://www.expressobeans.com/public/sea ... available=

Alamo Drafthouse in Austin replays classic movies and hires the most bad ass poster artists to create new film posters for them. They are

Some examples! (some are alamo, some aren't..)

BTW the guy who did those Star Wars posters (Olly Moss) recently did the box art for Resistance 3...

(actually the box art is a sorta cropped version of this, but I like the full poster better )

I've seen an amazing one for Aliens btw. Too bad it isn't high-res nor available for print, I'd throw my money to have it as a poster.

    ooooh that one is nice!!

There are two for sale on expressobeans, $120 for one of 'em. A bit pricey for such a small print (11"x14")... Its a giclee too, giclees are usually cheaper(and less awesome) than screenprints. It is a small run (100 prints) and a pretty well known artist, so the price isn't too crazy.. You could probably keep an eye on ebay and pick one up for less than that tho.

The problem with those posters is they are highly collectible and limited production runs, pretty much anything by any famous artist sells out in a few minutes... so unless you are sitting at your comp hitting f5 when they go on sale, you have to resort to flippers on ebay who jack up the price. For example, each poster in that Star Wars set (set of 400 ea) by Olly Moss goes for about $450 on ebay, or around $2000 for a numbers-matching set. They sold for $50ea when they originally went on sale. Those are big tho, 24x36 each and screenprints to boot. Olly is a bit more famous than Tom Whalen (who did that Aliens print).

I tried for that Olly Moss Star Wars set when it was first released about a year ago, but I missed the drop. Damn it. Coulda turned it into a $1800 hour's work of hitting f5.

That is a bit of an extreme example, that star wars series put on by Alamo is highly sought after and Olly is one of the more famous guys. Unless it a super-classic, most of them by the famous artists go in the range of $100-200 on ebay.

I love the Stalker film. I'm a huge fan of the Stalker game series, and I did everything backwards. I played the games, then watched the film, then read the book. It was like reverse engineering everything, loved it.

Yeah the Stalker movie is great. I like the first part more than the second one, but I thought it was a great insight about art and perception.

My favourite part is the meat grinder (I think its called that) where they send the reporter down that passage. It was actually pretty scary, the whole film was almost terrifying even though nothing happens. I think its a great example of how horror films and games can create more tension and overall scare factor, simply by having nothing.

    Yeah its called Stalker.

Its so weird how similar the book and film are to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, bearing in mind both we're released years prior. One thing I'm not sure I liked or not about the book, was that so much was left unexplained. Like the thing that can only be described as a sort of giant monstrous shadow that nearly kills them in the book when they're going through the zone on that weird vehicle. Nothing is explained of that 'thing' after that, the same goes for what I guessed to be 'Zombies', some explaining was done on the zombies but not enough to feed my curiosity. The part with the zombie was probably one of my favourite parts of the book, so creepy, I kept re-reading it.
