huh both those movies are from the same year as the abyss ? so strange how holy wood makes the same movies in parallel all the time ... i would have figured these 2 were directly derivative of the abyss if i hadnt checked the release dates ...

Yeah exactly, I didn't realize until I started digging for them again. 1989 and 1990 are filled with cool sci-fi movies + all other types of great genre movies. I miss the 80's and 90's for movies "/

I utterly loved that one as a kid:

Good luck tracking it down tho. It's a TV-movie from the 80's. Maybe there is an obscure torrent of it somewhere.

Not sure how low budget it needs to be but Fire In the Sky is a pretty cool filmhttp://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FEHP7JGego

i just re reread the thread after mino praised it for its excellence and i am shocked i hadn't commented on this yet:

fire in the sky is just about the scariest thing i have ever seen in my life !

hardly anythign has disturbed/fascinated me like that scene right there when i was a kid ! ( there are alot of scenes on xfiles that are kind of like it ... but not quit as disturbing)

somehow despite the common knowledge that its scarier if you dont see it

this scene in particular works and gets THAT much more scarier because it does not obscure the aliens this scene is TOTALLY in your face and thats whats so scary

recently i heared somebody talk about this ( dont remember where) and the claim was that this movie is so unknown because it was a hugh flop at the boxoffice because it launched the same day as jurassic park. not sure if there is anything to this i mean if it was more popular if it hadn't launched against one of the greatest films of the 90s ...

    anyway ... LOVE !

I just read up about the whole incident that this film is based on. Being exaggerated and changed drastically, the film bares little resemblance to the supposed abduction. But none the less, it was pretty disturbing yet intriguing to watch. I would have preferred if it stuck to his actual account, though. I'd of liked to see it. Still, stuff like this scares the crap out of me, and the exorcist.

Only the end of repo man is really sci fi like but it's definitely low budget.

One of the most hilarious movies I've seen in a long time. I find it hard to believe this scene didn't influence pulp fiction, especially knowing Quentin Tarantino is a cult film guru:

The Arrival with Charlie Sheen was a pretty decent Sci-Fi flick as well.

Pericolos0 mentioned DarkStar which i absolutely loved. Classic beach ball effects

I think Dark posted about Screamers which again i loved and the follow ups.

One film that always sticks in my mind when i think of cheap sci-fi films is Saturn 3

By no means low-budget this movie however has some great set-design and the scenes in the storage part of the ship are awesome. It has a pretty decent plot as well.

I remember this one, when I was just zapping through channels and see it just got on ... and I watched through the whole thing. A movie called "Death Machine" can't be bad...

Just stumbled upon this, a blatant rip-off of Star Wars but it has some nice environments it seems.
