How did you find it boring? Its visually stimulating I love the dialog and everything about that movie haha. The movie does good nods to 2001 and solaris

i remember that show and rewatched it last year its occasionally brilliant but most of the time its just too fucking oldschool/medievil

... also i don't get the characters ... i would have stayed at that french vinyard with the 20 or so attractivee virgin teenage girls ... whats wrong with those guys !

i think the books are actually currently being remade into a trilogy of movies

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0441811/

there were on and off rumors about this for a while !

( gotta love the music though !!!! )

    okay i just saw this:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1470827/

at the fantasy film festival here in hamburg ( that they seem to have bi annual now )

and i LOVED it the director was present and gave a small qa after wards which made the whole experience even more enjoyable/exciting i must admit ! for the first time ever i felt that the clapping at the end of a good movie ment something

i am not gonna say anything about the plot i think the less you know about the movie the better lets just say its not what you would expect ! (dont go an expect an action movie)

i had a quick chat with the director after the movie and squeezed out of him that he used 3d studio max and did all of the fx shots himself * i was super stunned when he said that* he dodged the question about the budget in the qa but its rumored that its roughly 15k pounds !

highly recommended i you like one or more of these films:

    el mariaci

    the abyss

    jurassic park

    primer

    jarhead

    district 9

    stalker

    cloverfield

war of the worlds ( the spielberg one ! ... this movie does what spielberg version attempted and failed at ! )

    go see it !

Was Alphaville ever mentioned in this thread?

Also Splice if you haven't seen it already:

    http://%7boption%7d

Maybe not exactly low budget but doesn't feel like AAA either.

Watched this the other day, the story was nothing special but it had some cool environments! And Sean Connery is fucking badass!

Alphaville is a brainfuck. Be warned.

It's like a Blade Runner type film noir sci-fi but they used completely normal everyday backdrops and costumes to shit on all the special fx and stuff used by other sci-fi movies of that time (mid 60'S). It's also grotesque in many other ways.

There are a bunch more I cannot find atm.

One I am looking for in particular is similar to the movie Virus(1998) in the way that the aliens use mechanical items and human body parts to construct themselves, but after an attack on earth (in some corridor thing) they go to the moon and discover old ruins and what not, forget the rest. It was a cool sci-fi movie though. If anyone may know the name, please let me know.

Leviathan (1989) - I really enjoyed this one. It has a great cast of actors set designs and the environments are amazing. The creature in the movie reminds me a bit of the alien from 'The Thing'.

DeepStar Six (1989) - This is another underwater sci/fi thriller similar to Leviathan but not half as good. It also has really cool set design and environments.

huh both those movies are from the same year as the abyss ? so strange how holy wood makes the same movies in parallel all the time ... i would have figured these 2 were directly derivative of the abyss if i hadnt checked the release dates ...
