Hopefully this isn't too dark. Some WIPs from our upcoming title Among the Sleep, a first person horror/adventure game:

going to look ten times better when you add some lights. would be cool to see the next result if you choose to do that.

Thanks for the feedback! We'll bump it up, and hope it will also be fixed with the hack we got for gamma correction, since Unity doesn't have that atm.

Lighting this has been a very hard process since on some monitors, it looks really dark, others have it just perfect (like, you can actually make out the individual things in a bookshelf, but if say a book was open, you wouldn't make out the text), and others again make it look like its daytime in the house and everything looks kinda washed out. But we will definitely work on it and post some brighter screens. We are currently working on a deadline (a little over 2h now) for The Gathering's (lan party in norway) game dev competiton. The response when looking on a good monitor has at least been great so far, so I hope to show it off better and make it look as best we can ^,^

    Edit:

You can try it out now that we have presented it on the compo at The Gathering: http://%7boption%7d (TG is over, so someone on the team changed the site.. but I will get a build up on a more discreet link so we can get feedback from you all We won 1st place and 15K NOK )

The key to solving that is to use high contrast lighting, make sure you have some really bright lights so no matter what monitor you have the important areas are lit, then settle for somewhere in-between for the ambient ... think doom3 - it's looking great btw

when it comes to brightness even in horror games, it's better to be on the safe side than completely ruin the experience.

2d-chris: Thanks! Will definitely work on it, a dark game isn't fun to play if its pitch black for everyone xD Definitely better to be safe than sorry

awesome, congrats! I think I remember you from some game dev-thing at NITH in Oslo where you had a presentation about modding a couple of years back (?). either way, good luck with your new studio. we definitely need more of that in norway.

@csyver: Yea that was me, cool that you remember it and thanks, we do indeed need more here in Norway ^,^ Hamar is actually turning into quite the game central, we have offices with 3 other game companies here that is starting up (moondrop, sarepta and biometric games) plus we know another one who is focusing on facebook and advert games (eyeball interactive) here.. but it is definitely small still.

Looks like New Vegas? Are you insulting the man?!?!

I think it looks really good!

I feel like there would be slightly more light at that time of day though.

    Still, very cool

Nice, I think its one of those scenes that would really benefit from more contrast between shadow and sunlight ... even if in real life everything is very flat. RL sucks

Also that time of day is very nasty, as you tend to get reallllllly long shadows and they end up washing everything out, it works if all you have is flatish hills, but if you add structures it might get hairy.

    Anyway looks yummy nonetheless

Some fellow computer science students wanted to remake Wolf3D using the engine they created this semester, so I'm making them a test level. I have to manually sort transparent surfaces in Max such that they're drawn after whatever is behind them because everything's pretty primitive at this point
