Nice looking scene. I'd agree about the lighting. I also think you need to match your colours between foreground scene and your background cards a bit better. Your models are a lot more yellow green than the foliage in the background. The background is also composed of more leafy plants than your palm trees, maybe you could get a couple of those in to cover some of the open floorspace you have right now. If you change the texture of the grass to the deeper green of the background it should also help blend in you grass sprites as they are closer to that deep green.

Yeah, when I was looking at it before bed last night, that was was bothering me too, I'll tweak the color of the grass!
And peris, do you think it might be the fog and its color I have going on? I've got some distance/heigt based fog + some slight DoF for the BG.

That was Evert, not peris

I think it looks pretty cool but the rocks look weird. I've never seen rocks like that in real life

The colors overall are pretty good, I love the palm tree! Keep it up man!

Haha, I always mistake the two cause of the little sun dude. Yeah, the rounded rock, I was a little too "fantaisiste" with that =/. The pointier ones though, I used this script: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scrip ... -generator

this is peris speaking:
Yeah, the fog most likely has to do with it, together with the very moody ambient lighting.
Also, the sky looks darker than what the color suggests (of course IRL there can be a lot of stuff like clouds and other weird things (clouds sucks) behind the camera).

Getting close to the end! Would love everyone's feedback:
Should I lean more towards this (I find this sells the blistering sun of midday, though is it *too* contrasted/overdone?):

Or more like this?

Yes most definitively

-
Second one looks better I would say. Bit too much contrast in the first, dirt on the plane stands out way too much etc.
-
If the grass wasn't as contrasty, than I'd like the first one better

-
-
yeah grass is the only issue for me too, the lighting is too bright/dark
besides that looking great

-
Yeah, I'm not too sure how can I fix the grass shadowing without lessening the shadow everywhere else =/.
-
Disable the shadowing from the grass. I've never needed grass to display shadows, usually looks better and performs better too.
-
Those rocks in the foreground on the left look weird. They remind me of the wind fish's egg from Link's Awakening.
What's with the seams (or seams-esque pattern) on them? -
That is awesome. Now multiplayer!!

-
awesome! is that a really big guy in the last pic?

-
-
Bram you are awesome, it looks great

-
It's just getting better and better

This is game dev going the right direction...
Make a "real" game out of that and I'll pay AAA for it.
