Too many light props. They would look better on the beams anyways.

Not sure whether it should go in 2D forum or here but whatever. Bunch of self photoshopped textures with normal and speculars included.

    SpicyTanuki, what game is that?

Aalexanderrr, are you using max to bake the normal maps & ambient occlusion?

Source engine mod called firearms source. Recently released.

keres - Don't even have Max installed. I made all the normal maps and "nextgen shiny stuff" maps by hand in the photoshop. A bit inefficient and takes way too long but the result is rather good.

I was home for a few days, not long enough to actually complete my ongoing project, but long enough to toy around with the cryengine, so I decided to create a few scenes based off comic books I like. Here's one:

i'll do without an image quote: i like it but I'd work on more stylization and probably work on the camera (+ pp). (it's probably WIP anyway so don't mind me talking )

It's neither really WIP or final, I just wanted to practice a bit since I had a few hours time on my hands. Dunno if I'll take it further later, i'm usually more focused on gameplay, so polishing such a scene might be a bit off my skillset. I appreciate the suggestion though, I'll see what I'll do with this. Btw, did you have something in particular in mind when mentioning stylization?

I entered Ludum Dare 18. You get 48 hours to make a game, art, sound, code, etc... The theme is "enemies as weapons".

    I REALLY need some sleep...

Good job Spicy for such a short time frame,

    but,

I don't get these contests. Why waste peoples time to complete something useless in such a short time to prove nothing and make crap? A week would at least give some extra value. Maybenot? heh

I don't know why others enter but for me it's a great exercise in rapid prototyping. Most of my coding projects these days are month-long affairs that can get pretty tedious and will most likely involve a lot of refactoring. It's a nice change of pace to quickly make something and get to dabble in a lot of different tasks like art, coding and sound. If I get frustrated in one area, I can work on the other. I guess the main point is it's fun

On that note, if you take a look at the winner of last years competition, it's actually a pretty fun game. A easy to get into action RTS. The games are not necessarily all crap. Granted a large portion probably are...

Also there's no reason you can't refine it after if you feel inclined to do so.

Ah cool, oh and I forgot to write, instead of 48 hours, why not a full week, heh. Anyway, yeah I could see it help train in quick prototyping for sure, never thought of it that way. I guess it also gives people reasons to actually do something. That said, is why I asked, hehe

Heh, a week would be great, but I can see myself choosing a project too large in scope at that point then not realzing it until around the 6th day in. There was recently a 9 day RPG challenge, I was thinking about entering it but ended up getting a temp job in construction.

Anyways, here's a timelapse I did of the game's development. Kind of cool to watch, the second half is better because there's more art though.
