Any chance you can share those textures? I think they would work well with PhilipK's textures

Those are stock Quake 4 textures.
They look like the old (almost 4-5 years now!) Hub textures to me, which poses a fun challenge. The textures are interesting and have nice shapes, but the normals get muddled by the diffuses and speculars and are so flat in color (you can see this in a few sets where the same normals are used for multiple textures - in the older variations they come off as very flat, while in the newer and better texture sets they pop much more cleanly as the artists had a better grasp on the tech). A few of the Hub textures got a second pass, but there was no time to do the full set, so you'll notice a BIG difference between the textures that were heavily leaned on in the game (much crisper diffuse, better specular, and higher contrast) and the rest of the set that was de-emphasized in the levels.
I think you'd be better off using either those newer textures or the core textures, which use many of the same normals as the Hub set, just to help things pop out a little more.

Screenshots of a Team Fortress 2 map I made that I'm thinking about adding more to.

I guess I can use this post as a minor introduction, I haven't been to mapcore in forever and my only post was about one of the first maps I attempted to make. Even though the thread went to shit (http://www.forums.mapcore.net/viewtopic ... &sk=t&sd=a) I think I made a great improvement in mapping. Or atleast I think so. Anyway, I've returned to mapcore hi guys woo.
-
yeah great improvement there. the tf2 map looks great, the night setting seems to be an easy way to make the map stand out of the dozens of standard maps - gj

on the mario world map: check out Sven Coop (new beta btw). I remember playing through mario world there already, doesn't get any better

-
Good work with the TF2 map RCagent, I'm looking forward to the full version, the night setting looks very good!
Good luck man!
-
yeah, your night setting looks pretty good, i especially like the indoor lightning

I thought I'd post this sucky scene, rendered in all it's directx 8 glory here for some crit as I went over my monthly download allowance and have very little to do as I am dealing with blistering speeds of 8 kb/s.

*snip*
What are you waffling on about? That looks great.
(apart from DX8.1, of course)[Blocked Image: http://i450.photobucket.com/albums/qq227/Psy-UK/tilt-lens3.jpg]

Tilt-shifting is awesome.

-
popcornjake, Sucky? That's really awesome work man!
And welcome to the core
-
this blur is totally out of place. you better take a look at photos and when this blur appears. basically you get a stronger blur effect the higher the focal length is. you shots always have a 90° FOV so the focal length would be around 18mm which is too low.
conclusion: stop this DOF shit if you don't know how and when.

-
Indeed it does... It's amazing how Source engine still can look so awesome! GI ftw!

-
I'm sorry psy, but Hessi is correct, you made the images really hard to even look at.
-
nice work popcornjake, what is it for?
-
Hessi he isn't attempting DOF, he is attempting tilt shifting (http://%7boption%7d).
He didn't do a bad job either imo. The first shot is a little off, but second is almost perfect for a tilt shift, it just needs more to make it look even cooler.
-
Ah, I didn't knew this technique... thanks for the link!
Pretty interesting stuff, and it works like a charm, at least on the wikipedia photo examples!

non the less his screenshots look ass.
-
You ever thought about being less of a dick, hessi? There's no need to be so harsh towards him.
-
Hessi, you are so full of yourself that its sad.
