some more progress on my tf2 map, started on the red side. the lighting still needs a lot of work (looks too realistic inside and too plain outside) and i can't compile cubemaps, but here it is anyway:

Some nice lighting effects would make that look a lot better.

you've got the style down pretty well, but just a small crit: the rock in the top left (3rd shot) is sitting on top of a roof, just looks a bit weird

Have you thought about making this a nightmap? You could place point_spotlights which illuminate the cliffs from below so to make them look contrasty and edgier and illuminate the important spots directly, playing with some lighting colors to push the "Red-Feeling" even more.

Oh man that last shot is awesome. It would especially look really cool with a few really high constant spotlights. facing the cliff/wooden structures.

    Point_spotlights don't illuminate anything

Surgeon, you can build the cubemaps in every other Source game if you want. I sacrificed Hl2 DM that way

Good stuff on the TF2 map.

That wooden texture going around the upper walls inside the building needs changing, though. It's got the same hole in it time after time, and it looks really obvious that it's tiling. If you're going to be covering a huge area like that with the same texture it needs to be one with no particularly outstanding areas.

Or just do what Valve do and add in details on the walls where it is obviously tiling.

in reference to their TF2 maps which use the same textures - it always helps to know how the makers of something intended it to be used.
