Halt! Hammerzeit!

i dont reckon germany would have that kind of construction movement, because as you might remember WWI happened some years before. what i am actually thinking of is that the buildings are very closely spaced together with such an increasing height - i dont think that would be happening in german in the 1920s, or before that. It actually looks very "americanized":

(look at the buildings not at the train)
the reference pictures also do not depict the reference you have built from (if any).
-
I think his scene is quite more industrial then that reference.
-
i really digg the first screenshot. i demand more gameplay like screenshots. those spectator screenshots are nice but what the player will actually see is important too

Hi again Sentura,
trust me
, I've spent many months on the road just to get references of buildings from about 1870 to 1930. I'm certain there have been plenty of places that featured this kind of architecture a long time before the 1920s.One example would be the city of Lübeck:

Königsberg, Hamburg:

Even more modern: the Kaufhaus Schocken in Chemnitz (1928)

Compared to this, my setting should be almost conservative...

P.S.: Hi Hessi
, I'll try and do that. Just been kind of hard to get the suspended-railway-idea into a screenshot from a player's POV. -
sentura is just.. well don't mind him

-
gotta love the insults bara, when's the last time you gave someone something constructive?
again those references do not at all look like what you made. it's all fine and dandy if you think it is plausible, but you didnt make the map for yourself, right? so as a "player" i am just trying to say that it doesnt look like anything that would happen in life; the 2 last shots merely enforce my point. having small rails like that going in and out of buildings? well maybe in a mining town somewhere up the mountains, but then the rest doesn't fit.
-
You map very fast and its a bit scary, but maybe... slow it down? Your brushwork and texturing while much improved from what we last saw could still use a bit of extra time on each building and some more thought put into individual areas. Like the foot ramp in this shot: http://www.albatros44.de/soviets/sov5.jpg which is basically just one big block with a concrete texture applied.
Just try to map like everyone else ;p Slow and steady. You've got enough maps, no need to rush-pump another one out. Take it slow and I'm sure you'll blow us all away

-
ACK!!! I'm trying!

The problem is... as soon as I get into it, I keep going for hours and hours, and I always fear I might loose an idea if I don't transport it into the map right away. I'll try to slow down though and focus on polishing every square inch, starting with the foot ramp
.I think we can come to a compromise - I'll get my camera out tomorrow and take a number of pictures. You take a look at & think about them and the possibility that my layout might, after all, be plausible, and maybe we can come together there
. -
You're almost being too reasonable mate.

Anyhow, here's a tip: orangemapping.
Set up your layout, and mark the spot where you would like to implement one of your ideas and make notes on paper about 'em. After all, ideas are like girls; the longer you play with them, the better it gets. -
-
I like that railroad, but I am not sure if a train can go on such steep slants especially with such a sharp turn
-
Oh it's not designed for trains, if that's what's puzzling all of you
.It's nothing but a mineral/coal transport system. There won't be any trains driving into the hall
.The hangar is only home to a small maintainance vehicle or a motorised transport locomotive that pulls those carts...

I guess I didn't mention this, did I? ;/
I've seen this in Almeria, Spain...

it's leading through large parts of the city like an elevated railway. And like that, it'll lead through my map from the axis spawn almost towards the allied spawn, shaped like a snake.
There'll be stairs to access it in selected areas, so in the end it'll be just an elevated alternative route, a bit more original than another boring cellar/subway/basement system, or not?
-
holy shit, albatross.

Small update on the forest map i've been working on, been optimising for the past week or so and just started on the visuals again. I've been exploring the night setting a bit more playing with placing fires around the map to help guide the player a little better and adding more volumetric fog in areas. You might notice that the river is also now complete. I just need to do some more detailing on the riverside itself.
