It's spelled "ton" in the U.S., "tonne" in most other places I think.

Both words come from French tunne. It's either 2000lbs. or 2240lbs (~1000kg), depending on if it's a short or long ton(ne).

I agree it might fit in better if it were a bit grimier, but the warehouse doesn't look all that grimy to me. The only real giveaway is that there's a light out, so... yeah. Also, sometimes equipment is kept in good condition for maintenance reasons when everything else looks bad.

It's in the top of the hanger, how many things get up there ? maybe rats engraving their names in it ? I dunno? I have no idea what would make it look grim other than dust.

I work with cranes like this, they become pretty gritty after the first two months (if even that long)

along the rail where the crane slides would be greased, so it would be grungey, greasy, probably no dirt but tracks along where the rail travels

We have one of them ourselves in our hangar. It's been there for 3 years, and it's pretty much the same... we work in metal every day with big constructions and welding etc etc. It wasn't new when we mounted it, but like I said, it hasn't changed a lot the past 3 years.

What kind of work do you do ?

    Thats a nice crane.

I could imagine like dust or idk paint chipping off? wouldnt think it would rust so idk.. maybe greasy lookin around where the wheels or the pulley is.

I think it would work if you just made it a bit grimier .. not like a whole lot but a visible amount to i guess notice it.

    lovin the forested area tomdon.

I love the envorinment moroes! Could be a bit brighter and as min0z says, the fog could have a brighter tone on the grayscale! Otherwise really nice!

In the 3rd shot, the pallet has a noticeable shadow -- is there a streetlight above (that we can't see) causing this? The shadow looks a little too crisp if being caused from a more distant light source.

    Great mood, though, overall!

Never worked with the source engine before? The shadows aren't caused by lights in the environment, they're all from a set angle (I assume whatever angle light_env is?). That's why you get this kind of thing happening.

LOL -- as you can probably tell from my post count, even if I did work with the source engine, I may not be smart enough to realize its shortcomings.

So, the pallet is picking up the light_env "light" for its shadow, why doesn't the sign a little farther away have a similar shadow? (or is it washed out due to the fog?)

In the screenshot you linked to, how would you control that situation? Disable shadows on the table model? Use an info_lighting set to the lamp on the wall?

Quite simply, you can't. That's one of the many problems with the Source engne - although they're adding dynamic lighting I think. Guess it's just a "hope no one notices" kind of thing.

Sauce really needs some shadow mapping or something added.
