WIP in WIP, post your level screenshots!

don't make me go through the gcf plz
the windows and the ceiling look suspiciously like those form valve.
Also there's a wooden floor that is custom but doesn't fit at all

-
Rick, not sure if You have noticed, this is a WIP, I'm pretty sure that some of these custom textures are not done/final and not everything is yet toned. Yes, the ceiling windows are from hl2 which is propably a placeholder that will be replaced later in developement. But rest of the stuff I see is custom (maybe one of the concrete floor textures is from hl2).
Maybe You could give some more usefull comment that would actually help rather than "Also - I see non-custom textures!!" which is rather ridiculous to say when something is in that early developement.
Anyways, my jelaousity detector is hitting highest values after reading your post.
You arleady got my opinion on this bartollo so I don't have to crit here

Here are a couple shots I'm ready to show of the first map in a small HL2 SP project I've been working on, Salvage. Going for sort of a creepy film noir look/feel.

Oooooo

Overlay or Color Correction?
-
Hmm the second shot is really yummy.
If your shooting for a film noir feel, you might add some kind of subtle noise or ageing effets to the screenoverlay, whatever it is.
-
Nice stuff, I thought the first pic was a photo at first glance. If it actually looks like that ingame it might get a bit boring after a while though

-
Hehe I also thought the first pic was a photo or render

Pretty cool I must say. I don't think it is boring if the atmosphere is right. Just take a look at the UT2004 mod "Hollow Moon" which is also only in black and white and creates an awesome atmosphere!
Or you could just make some Characters or story relevant things, places, etc. in color. Sin City like.
-
I think having a minimal amount of sound would be a pretty good idea.
Implement that idea in anyway that you would like.

Quote from the original posterI'm workin on 100% custom content CS:S map
All he had to say was "but I am still using placeholders, in fact the walls and ceilings and grates are only temporary placeholders"
etc

It looks really nice, which is why I didn't comment on anything except the custom content. If he was showing off his lighting (there's not really much else to comment on if he has placeholders and unskinned models) then he got feedback on it and I don't need to add to that.

I'm not a level designer - I find LD very boring, so no - maybe it was your gaydar that was picking up signals.

Maybe I already gave him my crits and I don't need to crit here either? Or do you just like jumping to conclusions and giving me shi9t because I said something bad about They Hunger a few months ago? GG Grinch

Nice screenshots elecheadmatt - does it look that good in colour? ;D

Thanks a lot for the feedback, you guys. Keep it coming, I really really wanna try to make this as awesome as possible.

Honestly, I really wanna keep it mostly black and white, though I've toyed with having some stuff in color, like the final level maybe. Or also release a color version.
I'd like to think though that if the environments themselves are interesting enough to explore/play in, then that will make up for the lack of color, not as compensation but just to balance the style.

Overlay or Color Correction?Overlay. Color correction would probably give me more control, but not everyone will be running color correction and the black and white thing is sort of one of the driving concepts to the project.

I hope so.

besides west wall was redesigned to put some more light on the floor
Rick_D - Yes, "I am still using placeholders, in fact the ------ ceilings and grates are only temporary placeholders"
( brick walls are custom
)cheers

The last two screens looks pretty good, will look alot better with real textures I guess.
Still I think the lighting is too contrasty, I'd make the shadows a bit brithter.
-
the trusses on the left of the 3rd pic look weird because of the vertex lighting.
-
Yeah it looks nice but I'm with Evert on this one (regarding the lighting)

Bartollo: It's a good start, but I suggest you'll look into adding more distinct details that make map more realistic in terms of Soviet era. I know it's early in the design process, but here are some of the abandoned russian places:

I can't really help with what is suitable in Soviet warehousre, because I was very young during those times, but look into abandoned stuff to get ideas what used to be significant to the atmosphere. Maybe some propaganda posters.

Thx Method!
Yes, propaganda stuff is cool idea, i've planed a big Lenin's poster on the wall on A or B site and big, concrete 'hammer&sickle' monument on the courtyard. Smaller one is above the gate on B-site.
At the moment i have almost 6000 reference photos according to properties of my 'mapping inspiration folder'
