It's today ladies and gentleman, in case some of you might've missed the news.

On 1st september of 1939 Nazi Germany attacked Poland without formal declaration of war, later, on 17th of the same month, Soviet Russia did the same.

In 1989 we finally managed to fight the communist and which led to end of Soviet Union and helped Berlin Wall to collapse.

The Poland as you know now is only 20 years old

    56,125,262 deaths WW2.

So creepy to think that it was only 70 years ago.

Quite interesting tribute here. Watched Defiance with Daniel Craig yesterday. Also The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a great movie with such a sad end some of you must see.

Who said anything about a celebration, its an anniversary. It's not the same thing.

Most of this day has been about remembering all the shit that happened so it wont happen again.

Yeah I think sometimes people kinda get a celebration association with the word anniversary, even though all it really states is the date an event took place years back.

Anyway, I know its tasteless to post this in this thread, but I just had to share this old horrible McDonalds commercial with somebody.

however much you wish for it, you're not going to people to stop waging wars against each other. i'd even believe that we'll have another world war 2 at some point in the future; and that we may have had one we've forgotten about.

the important thing isn't to remember the war (or anything else for that matter) for what it was or what exactly happened; it is to remember the reasons behind why it started. it is only through these lessons we can prevent the rise of similar circumstances that could potentially plunge us into a new world war. this is why i don't think we should be reminded of what happened, but of what we learned from what happened.

you could from here argue whether that would, as a sapient race, limit us in research and development of technological science. war is never a good thing from a humane perspective; but from a technological perspective, war also brings progress. without the technological advancements made during, between and short-after world wars 1 and 2, we would definitely not be anywhere near where we stand today. keep in mind that i only present the perspectives, not my own belief in (either of) them.

On a related note: Hurray for 20 years of corruption, inequality, collapse of education and infrastructure, inflation, mafia and criminality boom in Bulgaria (and other countries), now that you are free to do that.

    EDIT: And shitty yellow newspapers.
