Bit of blatent promotion here but thought i'd make a thread on Dirt 2 which is out in 3 weeks, it's the first game i've worked on in the industry since i joined Codies a year ago. The demo is out tomorrow on 360 and ps3 and features two tracks, two cars (no rally, rallycross or raid events), and one of the tracks in the demo (Morocco Trailblazer) is one of mine. Theres a comp being run on it whereby the top ten fastest lap times submitted win some neat prizes including some limited edition Dirt2 branded DC shoes.

Details of the comp are here: http://www.facebook.com/dirt2game

and the video of a fellow level designer setting the fastest lap is here:

If the game has bypassed anyone and you're a racing fan, the E3 trailer is here: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09 ... 50253..has a slightly dodgy frame-rate but thats GameTrailers fault

Can't say I'm going to buy it! But I can tell you lot's of people here enjoys this kind of racing games, and I'm sure they're looking forward to this!

Love the graphics though, the game really looks good, and by the gameplay vids, it seems like a very fun game too. Congrats on your first shipped title man, the first is always the hardest.

I just bought that tv like 2 days ago, it's not even for me it's for my dad.

I haven't owned a console since PS2. Me and a friend would buy a tv/xbox360 and then return them before a month was over. All the fun none of the cost ;D

It's especially genius to "rent" because as soon as you buy a TV it loses like $300 value and you can easily cover a year worth of good console releases in a month. not to mention the free month of xbox live (sorry guy who bought our returned 360 )

That's wrong on so many levels yet at the same time fricken' awesome. Way to fuck the system and stick it to the man.

There are a lot of things I've done to "stick it to the man" that even my family and close friends don't know about. I'm a really big fan of legal gray areas.

Before this thread gets fully derailed about sticking it to the man and such, I'd also like to say that I found both Grid and Dirt impressive. I used to play Gran Turismo 3 on my PS2 a ton but then got sick of racing. I actually enjoyed Grid quite a bit and am looking forward to trying the Dirt 2 demo.

I picked this up last weekend and I've been living this game all night almost every night since. Loving it. The Codemasters racers are easily some of the best presented titles out there right now. Amazing interface, effects, etc. Just a really satisfying game to play. Get it!

Aye, like I said in the recently purchased thread, its one of the best games of the year in my opinion. Even if you only have a vague interest in racing games then you should definitely check it out, it provides some amazing thrills in pretty much every race. Also I'm pretty much always playing it from the cockpit view, even though it actually makes it harder, especially when you have water splash up on the windshield (awesomest effect EVR btw).

Anyway, enough praise cannot be given to it, was planning on getting NFS Shift, but Dirt 2 was so good with such a meaty campaign that I don't really see the point in getting it now.

Was jsut watching some trailers for it, looks REALLY cool. Then it goes inside the cockpit with the driver and... oh dear. It looks like their budget ran out when it came to modelling and animating the driver

Yeap, I said previously that I'm probably not gonna get it but oh boy did I changed my mind! It's going to be my next game for my ps3 <3

You never see the guy except in a few replay camera angles, though; there's no need wasting time on a UT3-level character or something - the hands and wheel/shifting motion in the in-car view, which you actually see, look great.

Also the XBL avatar mirror decoration is possibly the best thing ever.

The driver looks fine At least Dirt has shifting animations (NFS Shift) and windshields in the cockpits (Forza) Plus the driver bounces around while driving and the co-driver does too, i actually think they're animated well. If you play Forza 3 and look at the drivers in their cars they are sat rigid and bolt upright, no animations at all really

That was part of the aim i think, mass market appeal and accessibility, which i think it does really well. My brother loves it and he's never played a racing game before. Games like Forza are great if you love your car porn, but for the full on racing package and just the pure fun aspect of it all, Dirt does really well

I realise i sound like i work in promotions by the way but i don't see anything wrong with actually liking a title i worked on I'd have enjoyed this game even if i had nothing to do with it, as i did with Dirt 1

While this is true my point was more in the fact that the rest of the game looks fabzy while the driver doesnt look all that great, even if you don't see him much. But you don't really see much in a racing game at the speed you travel, do you? And that all still manages to look good.

    PC Demo?

NFS:Shift demo was ok, was expecting more CRASH though when battering objects. Even on high its pretty clean and no dust/debris
