Only the first few copies of it. The later versions of ps3 got a bigger hard drive but no ps2 games support.

You can however, download most of the awesome ps2 games on the ps3 web thingie.

Depends on the PS3, confusingly enough. Sony basically did a U-turn on its policy, going from literally having the whole of the PS2's hardware and thus perfect backwards compatibility in the original PS3, to having none of it at all and thus no backwards compatibility in later PS3s after the first big price drop.

Removing the hardware is how they managed to drop the price so much, incidentally. I'm guessing this slim version and lower price is just as much a delayed consequence of no longer needing to squeeze a 'PS2' in there as it is the ability to make the hardware fit in a smaller area.

Yes that's true, but software emulation is also another possibility, but they wont do it, not for now at least. Because they still sell a lot of PS2's!

It's not impossible to run homebrew on a PS3, just that nobody wants to bother with the system. There IS Linux though (not on PS3 slim).

I was referring to PSCX2. PS2 software emulation is PS2 software emulation, even if it's not running on a PS3.

Have they ever said that? I always thought the PS2 parts needed for BC would cost a few dollars per unit these days, and that the actual reason they dropped it was to keep on selling more PS2s where they make a far bigger profit than the PS3 for every console sold. Which is why I'm fairly sure it will come back once PS2 sales drop off completely, or when they stop supporting it (next year if they keep to the 10-year lifecycle).
