    Teh fawk?!

I don't know if I should feel extreme joy or be really fucking scared that it's gonna be a huge disaster. Regardless then it just made this "reboot" much more interesting.

I did once read an interview where he shot down the idea of doing a Blade Runner sequel, saying that he'd never go back to something if he couldn't do it better. Hopefully he still lives by that, but then again his last couple of movies haven't exactly been ground breaking in their respective genres.

Sounds awesome and scary at the same time, yeah.

Scott is a good director but he did some mediocre movies after his masterpiece (Alien of course ). However he knows what to do. It would be awesome if Giger gets involved in the film again by creating various paintings and such like he did in the first one.

I'm slightly afraid too about the fact that Scott will probably unveil too many things about this cute creature, their strength lies in their unknown origin IMO.

    Wait & see.

Felt pretty much exact same way after hearing about it. Even though I don't have the hate-hard on for all his recent stuff like a lot of people (American Gangster is pretty fucking great), there is still this weird sense that it might turn to shit, given how long this thing has been talked about.

But it's in the hands of the best science fiction director alive, so even if it's a giant failure, it will be glorious.

Hell, Body of Lies was good shit too.

Best science fiction movie after 2001 and Blade Runner? No, not missing a thing.

there has been rumors about this very thing happening for years now ... all i am saying is this calls for some "cautious optimism"

    also:

aliens > alien > all other movies period !

/edit actually the commercials that the other guy who was set to direct did are pretty fucking rad !

Well, that's the thing, if too many things are unveiled about the Alien origins its gonna demystify it and be much different in the suspense aspect, but then then again that would be something new and at least something that hasn't been explored before by Scott. Since the original movies have already let out the cat from the bag, then I figure its probably gonna be an uphill struggle to keep that same mystery about it, but that's obviously given that its gonna be the exactly same type of movie as Alien, which I certainly hope isn't the case.

Regarding Giger (GAIGUUUR, warby!), wasn't there a lot of feuds and disagreements going on during the making of the first movie between Giger and Scott? It's ages since I saw the bonus material, but I think I remember something about him being pissed that they didn't do the designs justice or something, a real artist . But yeah, would be awesome.

Yeah it has been going on for quite a while, and Ridley Scott apparently has EVERYTHING EVER to do the next couple of years, so unless it somehow gets fast tracked then its probably gonna be at least a couple of years into the future before it goes anywhere.

And regarding Alien vs. Aliens, then I still think its slightly pointless to compare them. Yeah they're based in the same universe, but ones a horror movie and ones an action flick, both absolutely amazing in what they do. I still prefer Alien tho, although I love all the humour, action and pacing of Aliens, then Alien just seems to hold up better today for me, maybe its also just some kind of nostalgia about it since there were years between since I saw them.

I don't understand what you're trying to achieve with your comments. You've obviously seen the same movies we've seen, you don't see anything special in them? Fine, I'm sure there's plenty of cases where its the other way around. I don't think there's a major thing you need to understand to enjoy these movies, you could maybe say they're slightly overrated today, but regardless then they've influenced pretty much everything you see in Sci-fi today.

There is no public consesus if Alien or Aliens is the better movie. It all comes down to personal taste.

One thing is for sure tho: I must be the only person on this planet who loves Alien: Resurrection.

I can understand why tho. People who see this expect another horror action flick but what they get to see is a typical Jeunet movie. Dark comedy with beautiful backdrops. This doesn't compute with the most fans of the franchise.

sorry it was a bit off topic, but erratic has been acting up every time i've posted a response to anything which i don't find interesting. i was just pointing that out.

i doubt they've influenced everything sci-fi (especially considering star wars came before them), but i see where you're coming from. i think that while the inspiration may be excellent, the movies themselves just aren't that good. i'm trying to figure out why people hold them in so high regard, pretty much.

I think the thing that unsettles me the most about this announcement is the fact that it's gonna be a prequel to the original Alien film. Story-wise this is a pretty big challenge considering the storyline of Alien and the following films.

I mean, how are they going to fit humans into the story considering that the crew of the Nostromo were the first to discover the derelict on LV4-26? I've heard some people say that Weyland somehow already knew about the derelict and the aien before Nostromo was sent to investigate, but if so, why did they not send further parties to investigate during the 57 years that Ripley was drifting through space?

So many gaps would have to be filled with humans involved in the prequel, and as a die-hard fan of Alien and Aliens, one thing I wont be able to tolerate is massive gaping plotholes ala Alien3 & Alien Erection.

I would still love to see a sequel set between Alien 3 and Alien Erection (minus Ripley) where a larger team of marines and/or scientists return to LV4-26. One thing that was never addressed was that although the colony was nuked, the derelict was likely to have been nowhere near the Colony (hence why it was never discovered until Burke sent them there) and still in tact. I'd like to see them return to the derelict and take on a storyline that more closely resembles the amazing Dark Horse Comics. I always thought they would make an epic trilogy of Alien movies if directed by the right people.

actually just a month ago i worked my way through all the "aliens" dark horse comics there was a lot of garbage in there and a lot of terrible artwork but there was the occasional gem in there as well :

    i recommend:

    strong hold

    lucky

    labyrinth (personal favorite)

and book 2 (most obvious candidate for a movie )

so i would love to see instead of a prequel a one shot stand alone feature based on one of those comics OR a real sequel to aliens that disregards 3 and resurrection and renders them none canon ( no matter how cool they looked ... and i fucking adore fincher and jeunette).

at the bottom line i agree we don't want to know where the derelict came from don't ruin the mystery ffs !

/edit he is fuckign called: GIGAHR !

James Cameron's Alien Return was Awesome. I'm not such a fan of Alien from Ridley Scott and its sequels especially the Jean-pierre Jeunet sequel which was crap!

Consequently I'm not pretty excited with that announce.

    We already know about.

The derelict ship contains several thousand alien eggs. Scott suggests in his Alien DVD commentary that the Jockey's ship was a "bomber": alien eggs could be dropped on an enemy planet, and the aliens would proceed to kill the population as they spawned. According to Cameron, the Space Jockey's craft picked up alien eggs and the pilot became infected by the dangerous cargo; the ship landed on LV-426 and the Space Jockey transmitted the signal as a warning. - Wikipedia

However that could be such a great story... a story without human which could be interesting. W8&C...

i like the bomber idea if they are gonna tell that story completely without humans just by gestures ... have a 2 hour movie without a word spoken ... that would be a fucking instant masterpiece right there !

I've seen so many fuck-ups on the Alien franchise, that I don't even know if I should be happy or not about this, even if Ridley Scott is on the same boat this time.

I'll keep my feelings on hold!
