If you see bedrock you're too deep, the curve of diamond spawning rate actually goes down within like ~12 blocks of the bottom layer as bedrock and lava replace it.

I wandered around a frozen lake, searching for coal... then I finally found some in a cave, but then 2 spiders snuck up on me and I ran away, and I broke all the ice to turn it into water and flushed them all away. I love this game.

I downloaded it when their servers were down to try it out. Walked around the map for 10 minutes, pick up some flowers and twigs, couldn't figure out what to do, delete.

lol, and you didn't had the slight curiosity to check out on the internet what the game was really about before giving up?

It's an alpha release by one guy. It's really popular right now and has lots of hype but that's not meant to imply it's some polished game. In fact it's amazing that despite its lack of polish people have actively figured out how to play minecraft instead of feeling entitled after years of being spoonfed bowls of linear garbage.

Yeah it is hardcore, it does not explain what to do, and it takes half an hour of work to collect enough resources to make a decent start at actually playing the game. And you can get lost in no time.

And yet people play it like crazy.

    Nuts.

I am building a big tower, pics coming up later, I worked on it from 23.00 until 4.30 am yesterday:P

I think the first few days are the most exciting, when you quickly have to get together some wood, coal etc. before the night, then dig a hole in the side of a mountain to stay safe until day. Right now I restrict myself to one life, like Diablo 2's Hardcore mode. If I die, I start a new world.

Yesterday I had just found a cave to spend the night in, blocked the entrance, went to explore the cave while waiting for day, found one of those mob-spawners (which are awesome!!) and shit myself when the cave filled up with zombies
