Due to a bunch of server crap on Notch's end (What is that guy doing? There are hundreds of thousands of minecraft players and he still hadn't updated beyond a single local server?) Minecraft.net is mostly down except for a simple single html page, the downloads have been mirrored into an Amazon cloud, and Minecraft is free to play until all of this is sorted out. The download version from the site (from Amazon) is only the plain .exe so doesn't download/include sounds, though.

So, anyway, if you wanted to try Minecraft and haven't yet, you can now get it for nothing (play some music in the background or something)

Just showing off my little settlement. (bonus points for hearing my accent)

This would be so much fun with a structured multiplayer implementation. You could have territory flags that you drop on the ground and create a zone that is your territory. You could then set permissions and make your territory grow by building, exploring and gathering resources. You could then absorb neighboor terrirories and create a small kingdom \o/ rivalling kingdoms would fight both economically (trying to overlap their boundaries) as well as military (there could be restrictions for being on enemy territory, kinda like the attrition works on Rise of Nations).

To avoid animals stomping your crops you can fence them off using wooden fence, ah and the animals spawn everywhere the grass is.

500 stone blocks and sections of track later, I now have a complete mine track stretching from my spawn all the way to my mountaintop home. It is totally rad, and awesome. I'm still trying to work out how to get the cart to return to spawn after it drops me off at my mountain, because it seems that carts have far less momentum without a rider.

Like five 64 piece stacks, yeah. I actually used all my iron at the time on track pieces and ended up making about 150 extra, and then had to go spelunking to get more iron so I could build the carts.

Still haven't figured out a way to get the minecart to go back to the spawn. I might just have to make the mountain booster cart two way (just a single cart on a single flat stretch that stays at one end until moved by a cart coming the opposite direction, either that or a big V shape so that it can be infinitely used in any direction as it always coasts to center), have the cart go up a giant hill off my mountain way up to the skybox, and then have it go all downhill back to spawn so the lost weight and power of having a rider doesn't cause it to stall out in the middle of the stupid track.

Or, maybe, middle boosters along the track, like three of them. That might actually work, though it'll require me to rebuild quite a bunch of stuff currently floating in midair dozens of tiles up, and would look ugly. Maybe encase them in floating train stations.

I haven't messed with carts yet, too rich for my blood, so I can't really envision the problem you're having, nor a solution. I'll build staircases/ladders instead for now.

I'm most definitely a hoarder, which is kinda not the point of the game. I have piles upon piles of resources, but an aversion to actually using it for anything. It just sits in my crates, a monument to wasted time :derp:

    Friday's penny arcade is golden

Right now my minecraft is broken, and I know I just need to re-download to fix.. but I'm avoiding it, so I don't spend all day minecrafting. I have homework to do

Think of it as a big sandbox with interesting systems. The game is still in alpha but it shows so much potential!

Here is a sneak peek of what I did today, I actuallt finished it, but it's too late to record a video today... I'll post the results tomorrow:
