My God this game looks amazing, easily a contender against Crysis for most photo-realistic engine. Obviously I haven't played it, else my PC would have exploded and taken half of the street with it But I've seen a lot of footage and screenshots from it recently, since it caught my eye being set in Russia, always got a thing for Russian environments since playing STALKER and Paranoia. It's been released in the US today and a demo was brought out yesterday, so check it out:

    http://www.arma2.com/arma-ii-demo-released_en.html

For those of you who don't know what it is (pffft... keep up, even I know all about this one!), some of you may remember a game released awhile ago called Operation Flashpoint which is a cult classic war simulator. Although a sequel (Dragon Rising) is in the works, the original developers can't work on that due to Codemasters owning the IP so Bohemia have made the Arma games instead

A buggy mess, just like its predecessors. And like its prodecessors, it will be fucking awesome.

Playable farm animals already makes it 10 times better than Crysis.

Doesn't look anywhere near as good as crysis imo. Looks like just another "russian" game with photorealistic rusty textures all over the place.

The opflash/arma series isn't about graphics, its about losing your entire squad and getting lost, hiding in a bush for 30 minutes doing fuck all before mustering up the courage to crawl your way 2km's across enemy territory only to be shot in the head from some guy you could never have seen coming.

So basically, the coolest thing ever.

Fucking dead on. I used to love playing the Flashpoint Demo like it was one big Counter-Strike. I spent hours on top of that hill shooting at blurry dots with a PKM.

And I will never forget the feeling I got when a tank rolled past a house I was in, looking for me, and I tried to blast it with a LAW.

I love how you always burn "russian" art style down to the ground.

The game is Czech btw and is developed by a studio few blocks away from 2KCzech

Yeah it needs overdone SSAO so that it looks anywhere as good as Crysis

Played it a bit at work, got a new hefty machine yesterday so I'm able to run it with Very High settings and still get around 60fps, its quite nice.

I really hoped their campaign would be just semi-decent, but its simply too buggy and sluggishly put together for me to play it any further. I guess it'll be okay fun to just fiddle with the editor and just make some huge battles on your own, but I kinda was hoping for a proper single player thing or possibly something more sandboxy.

While I can't appreciate Arma 2 directly, seeing as I don't have nearly the hardware to run it, I certainly can appreciate awesome stuff like this:

Game is looking good, but comparing it to Crysis is silly... Even STALKER CS looks a little bit better than arma2.

but it sure is looking gorgeous, I might give it a try, but not for it's graphics, but for that kind of ultra realistic gameplay, might be fun.

So good, so buggy. Can't even get through Basic Training without it bugging out but it doesn't matter. The size of this games balls far outweighs that of any other military shooter. GOTY for sure, and I haven't even parachuted behind enemy lines with a cow yet.

Damn straight, this is easily compared to Crysis's level of detail and considering this is a sandbox game with miles of terrain to explore and Crysis is much more linear and closed off I think it's a remarkable achievement.

    Btw, this is why this game is one of the best things ever;

Yup.. you can play as a dog.. and pretty much any other animal as well

Only thing in this game that is gay as Hell is the team command system, it sounds robotic and unrealistic which is ironic considering how close to realism this game is supposed to be.

I've downloaded the demo but when I try to run the installer it keeps saying that there is not enough disk space even though there are 22 GB left! It can't be that big!!!

    .

Can you do this in multiplayer? Can the dog bite? Can you be like a stealth killer dog? I must know.

Haha yes, its a lot worse than OFP, it puts me off totally :S It feels as if there is some sort of a bug with pitching (they have random pitches for units), maybe it will get fixed.
