Yeah... then again, each and every Rockstar game shines in it's own way!

I'm hopeful, or rather, I'm pretty confident it will be a fun game and a good SP experience, it just feels a bit off.

Let me look in my crystal ball here and look into the future...I can see that Rockstar is going to make a great game and all of you who are crapping over the trailer are going to buy it. The End. :derp:

I didn't say I wasnt gonna buy the game! Completly the other way around, I know i'm gonna buy it and I know we'll enjoy it to shit, just pointing out that they're missing the point of what Max Payne universe is all about.

So they stripped out all the comic book noir and now it's just another generic game with bullet time?

This looks so much like Kayne & Lynch, this trailer has made me legitimately angry. They clumsily shoved the max payne soundtrack over it so people would have some sort of nostalgia attack, that's what is the most offensive thing about this.

How is this not like Max Payne? You have cello, guns, crime and narration.

But yes, Max Payne definitely wasn't about NYC. It was about warehouses. Don't worry, I'm sure there'll be at least a few warehouse levels for the hardcore Max Payne fans out there.

It looks fine and I'll probably end up playing it.

The EDGE article said the game flashes back to what happened in New York, so there will be old fat Max in Sao Paulo, and Max with hair in New York.

Personally I'm excited about the Sao Paulo location, but I don't have deep connection to the original games.

it was also about a noir style comic. now while i think this could be done in sao paulo as well, it seems like they haven't paid heed to that. the winter in mp also played a large role in the game, i'm uncertain how they will handle the lax weather of sao paulo to give off that same vibe.

I hope some of the action takes place in Sao Paulo downtown during the night. It's a perfect setting for Max Payne imo:

To be honest the city is largely irrelevant, no definition of noir says it has to feature New York or even night-time. It's all about the atmosphere, and while a snowy New York was absolutely wonderful that doesn't mean somewhere like a dreary Brazil couldn't be a similarly perfect fit as long it's executed right. And there's noone who's more likely to accomplish that except perhaps Remedy themselves.

The trailer doesn't exactly fill me with complete assurance, but it doesn't fill me with dread either. They certainly capture the noir characteristics in quite a bit of the trailer, and while a lot of it shows action it's far from the first trailer to miss the mark by not showing enough of the story.

The most striking thing for me is that the bright, sunny look has been completely toned down and even the brightest of daytime scenes have a cloudy, overcast sky. While I'm sure there'll still be some bright areas to drive home the fact that it's Brazil, I'm guessing a lot of the game will feature an overall look closer to the original games (Max Payne's outdoor areas often weren't actually that dark due to the snow and bright lighting).

i'm confused... are those in game shots?

and thrik: absolutely, an example would be LA noire. but the atmosphere being the most important part, it doesn't help that you're going around in favelas where the color palette is vibrant. noir is cold, concrete, dark and brooding. it's like a bad dream. the trailer showed nothing of that; and while i'm not skeptical towards the game, they do make it hard for themselves not presenting that which is the most important.

also, this reminds me of the dream sequences in max payne. where is all that going to fit in this? does he still have recollections about his wife and kids? coherence is important, and so far we've seen nothing of it.

It says at the end it is entirely in-game footage. It looks to me like it is mostly cutscenes though, but that is normal for trailers.

It looks pretty good to me. I don't think we'll know if it "is" Max Payne until we play it... and I'm sure there will still be debate.

If the trailer is any indication, the time of day seems to be around evening/dusk most with some night and some day bits, mostly overcast. But again... we won't know for another 9 months. But it can't be night ALL the time!
