some more wood for the fire:
Max Payne 3

I never played max payne, and even I can see from a long way off that this game has nothing to do with max payne

Another sequel by people who dont get it.
"What did the first game(s) have?"
"guns"
"good, so lets just make a game with guns then and it will be a sequel!!!111"

QFT. I'm all for the benefit of the doubt, but this is not Max Payne.
Quote from WikipediaA recent issue of Game Informer has revealed that the story is set 12 years after the last one (setting it in 2015, The first game being in 2001, the second being 2003). Payne has been cut loose from the NYPD, and has moved to São Paulo, Brazil where he's taken up employment in the private security sector, working for a wealthy local family.
Max on Fire?

Why not? They're really going to scrap years of development at the behest of an internet petition.
High-five man, let's do this shit!
Oh ok, you were being sarcastic.. but yeah I just can't believe they want to reinvent Max Payne like this. Why the fuck do people keep trying to change franchises? Silent Hill Homecoming tried to change the franchise by making it more combat orientated and thus completely missed the point, Resident Evil went from zombies in a fictional US mansion to alien hybrids (or whatever they are) in Africa and now Max Payne is going to Brazil!
Looking at the shots of Sao Paulo, it seems like it could work very well, just give Max his trademark jacket back, make him less hairy and set the game at night (cause you know.. MP never had any levels in the daytime) and it could be something special. I can't believe that they said in that article they went to large lengthes to research Sao Paulo when it's actually just a generic Rio setting which looks like borrowed content from the upcoming Modern Warfare 2!
I might buy it, but I'll be waiting for the reviews and youtube videos of people actually playing the game before I decide to make a purchase or not.

The two movies they cited as reference (city of god and elite squad) take place in Rio

It's like comparing Los Angeles to New York... makes no fucking sense.
-
My tally thus far is:
-It lacks both the writing of Sam Lake and voice acting of James Mcaffrey.
-It's not in New York.
-Rockstar is terrible at making PC Games.
-I can't recall Rockstar ever releasing mod tools for their games.
-The makers of Bully are developing it...
I can't even think of a straight shooter ever made by Rockstar. Red Dead Revolver was started by Capcom (and full of annoyances) and Manhunt as I understand it is part stealth.

Max Payne is dead, long live Alan Wake! WAH WAH WAH!

Videogames - Serious business.

wut
People are all butthurt over GTA4 and how it's high settings pretty much require a quad core. I don't know how long they expected "Get a dual core, games don't use four cores, use that money to get a better video card instead!" would last, but now it's officially no longer valid, because games are using it. Enjoy having to buy a new machine or having to socket a new CPU (both incredibly annoying tasks). GTA4 on a quad core machine runs great.
-
My tally thus far:
- Character design has gone too far. I appreciate that they change the look to an older Max Payne to fit the storyline, but that guy has little to no resemblance to the character from the previous games.
- Setting controversy: Sao Paolo/Rio de Janeiro, it's slightly upsetting for Brazilians/people who know the places better, but honestly I didn't notice or really care. What does bother me is, what others mentioned, the bright, tropical, daylight setting that doesn't have anything to do with the previous games. I DO think though, that the game will have many dark places to visit, maybe it's just the selection of screenshots that is very weak for a new Max Payne game.

No "Max Payne" about Max Payne anymore
just some random bald guy in a Hawaii shirt.

this, basically...
remove the noir(seemingly), remove the devs, remove new york and remove max payne... eh...
Yeah man... I almost consider this insulting, giving I actually started modding with Max Payne, and this shit is anything but Max Payne universe.
Even the shitty movie they made had the mood nailed down, sorta.
-
I think they could've made those screenshots just a tad darker tho.
-
Damn I was hoping this had died and they would start again with Max back in New York, but no such luck
I guess they're still saying it's set in Sao Paulo even though it's blatently Rio De Janeiro because the developers are fucking idiots. -
