Couldn't find the other thread, so here's a new one. Anyway, Gameinformer magazine has an article on the new game:

Gotta say that I am not impressed at all, how the Hell is this Max Payne? There's no grittiness, no dark noir style story telling.. Looks more like Die Hard in Brazil :/

    Franchise raped

not bothered to read through the article really

edit: Seems like the game will be nice and fun but its no longer max payne to me. The good thing is that, since its based on rage, it will use euphoria which i like

edit2: Max looks kinda like Sean Connery to me

Indeed, it looks like FarCry 2 in third person. On the fourth screen there's a bit where he's wearing a shirt and it looks "a tad" more like Max Payne, but you really have to look for it. It's weird that it takes place in Sao Paulo as well. That's not the exact place that comes to mind when thinking "noir". Then again, I'll wait and see, if you forget its Max Payne, it could still be a good game. Rockstar aren't so bad at what they do.

A friend of mine left Rockstar Vancouver for Ubi Montreal and AC2 after starting working on this game. He told me one of the reasons he didn't believe in the project was the choices and directions they were making that made the franchise evolve into something else entirely.

hmm looks like they've changed everything, right now it looks like a mix between sam fisher, uncharted and die hard, they also changed the voice actor for max :S

Far Resident Evil Cry Payne Theft Auto 4.

Actually those overalls remind me of Torque's attire from The Suffering

Why not? They're really going to scrap years of development at the behest of an internet petition.

Hehe I think I'll reserve my judgement until I see something proper from it rather than just a mag scan.

I do agree that it feels kinda random to suddenly have him go to Sao Paulo, but I think it could be a cool location have him fiddle around (Hey, MW2 is in Brazil as well, its the new hotness ).

I always like seeing developers take games in to a new and fresh direction, and if they can pull noir in such an unusual setting it's gonna be great.

At this point the main thing bothering me is weather or not the rage engine will work well on the PC, or if it will be another GTA.

I was rather excited when I saw Max Payne 3 would take place in Sao Paulo, which is a very dark, tough and gritty city. Think of a fucked up New York. But those screenshots have nothing to do with Sao Paulo... slums here are flat and not as colorful as those in Rio... Sao Paulo also doesn't have any cliffs in the middle of the city as one of the screenshots show. It seems like they are basing their work on City of God (that takes place in Rio, which is a very sloppy city) and claiming it's Sao Paulo just for the sake of it.

I'm rather hopeless now that I've seen those screenshots. Sure, I'll play it when it comes out because I'm a huge Max Payne fan but it seems like they really suck at researching

Looking at the rio slums gives me vertigo.

I agree though, when I heard the location I GIS'd it and got really excited, Sao Paolo looks like a really neat environment for a game, but then the screens are all generic south america.

Plus with the non-english setting we might lose out on TV shows and guard banter, so the game may not have any funny either

While I'm always willing to give things the benefit of the doubt, looking at these screenshots I literally can't see anything that made the earlier Max Payne games appeal to me so much. While it may very well be a competent shooter, it doesn't look like it's going to bring back one of the most atmospheric series ever.

I suppose it's worth remembering that Rockstar does have some serious storytelling chops though, so I'd imagine it will still be an engaging storyline with interesting characters. I'm just going to miss the deeply immersive night-time snow/rain setting.
