Just saw it, was amazing. [sLIGHT SPOILERS] I actually really liked that it went into being an action flick towards the end, heard some that didn't like that that much, but also that the overall blend between documentary and regular film was pretty seamless surprised me. Plus the I thought the character of Wilkus was really refreshing an different, a fucking prick at times, and the aliens were awesome, plus I LOVED the awesomely violent moments that were across the entire movie. Overall a really well put together film, really anxious to see what Blomkamp does next.

There were things about the film I definitely liked, however I hated the main character and I thought the cinematography was terrible. The problem was the constant shaky cam. I know it's a technique to heighten the intensity of the action, but I'm sick of it already. I go to the movies for a cinematic experience with cinematic shots where I can actually see what's going on. In this film the shaky cam was overdone and it just made me lose interest in the otherwise brilliant action sequences. I know the shaky cam is part of the documentary style, but I feel it detracted too much from the movie experience. Such a shame really, as there was some outstanding stuff in this movie, even with the main character.
As for the social commentary on Apartheid, it didn't really register and sort of fell flat. But bravo for making a film of this overall quality and visual effects for only $30 million.

Great movie but definately gets overhyped now. I don't see it in row with movies like 2001, Alien etc.
The main problems that i see with it is the complete lack of own ideas. Movie feels like a patchwork made from scenes of Alien Nation, The Fly, The Office, Enemy Mine, Men In Black, City Of God, Children of Men, Transformers etc. etc. etc.
The main character looks and behaves like Michael Scott from The Office + south african accent added. The aliens are too much human for my taste with their humanoid bodies and feelings. These things are immersion killers imo in front of such a gritty backdrop. However the movie is visualy stunning and has great action. Considering the quite low budget the result is awesome especialy compared to big budget Hollywood crap like Terminator: Salvation that had a six times higher budget.
8/10

September 5th can't come quick enough. Been years since I actually REALLY wanted to see a film.
-
Very, very well done movie. Easy to approach and felt pretty realistic how the set was introduced. I have mixed feelings about the main character but overall a very solid movie.
QuoteSequel anyone? In 3 years, right?

-
Gonna see this tomorrow, can't wait!
Oh yeah.. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/boa ... #146510695

Most awesome rating system EVER.

It's every fathers duty to take their daughter to see District 9, I figured this was common sense.
-
Great film, nice and refreshing to see such a setting as South Africa for this kind of title, worked really well and the accents added comic value too
Quotefock!!
. The ending made me feel a bit sad but it was always gonna happen.
Go see it if you haven't already

Awesome motion picture! No way! I liked the aliens' weapons with Quake feeling...
QuoteHope for a sequel 3 years later!

Watched it today, that was a damn good movie. Never saw aliens made to seem so real and personable before. Extra impressive since they were CG, too.
Anyone on the edge not sure if it's worth watching- at one point a pig is gravity gunned into a soldier, killing him.

Some concept art which might interest Peris, Koko and Mino...

Haha yeah, I think it's safe to say HL2 had a fair bit of influence here

-
The best film of the year, maybe the best of the decade.
