What is your NAT setting Rick?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Teaser

I have absolutely no idea what that is.
-
It has to do with opening a port for the game.
When you are in a lobby it will tell you what your NAT setting is (lower left side of screen I think). If it is strict you will have a shitting time connecting and usually have no more than three bars. If it is strict you need to mess with your router and enable UPnP. You can google NAT settings and find out more.
The whole thing sucks but all games using the internets have to deal with it. We just put it right on the screen so people can see what theirs is set to (on all formats, even though MS didn't want us to).
My home NAT was strict and I was in a world of shit trying to get a good connection but I fixed it now and even the BC2 demo is running smooth.
Hope that helps.

PC Gamer's complaining about ports is hilarious. where the fuck has everyone been the last 15 years.

I've never had to mess with forwarding ports or NATs with any IDTech or Source or Unreal game. The first time I had to forward a port, back when I first discovered what torrents were, it was pretty much the biggest tech headache I've ever gotten from computer stuff.

Of course, not to say I've never had ANY such problems with online games before. Last year I had to get a new router because I got a VoIP phone company and they had a special model that was needed for their phone service, and now whenever I try to load the server browser in Quake 3 (not Live), Return to Castle Wolfenstein, or Wolfenstein Enemy Territory it makes my router reboot itself and fails to find any games. I can only join servers by manual IP connect. In all the research I've done into it, the closest I've found to a solution posted online is "get a different router", ffffff

Me and my friends (both on LAN and at different houses) are "Open", but then again, suddenly after playing for hours (trying to connect for too much of the time), it changes to "Strict" for a round, then back. My settings are at least correct, cause I double-checked it.What I find funny, is that some of the maps that I hate on TDM, are really awesome on Domination! Invasion and Kerachi (it's the massive amounts of camper spots that ruin TDM, not the maps themselves
)IMO the only complaint about MW2 on my part is the matchmaking, because it sure as hell isn't easier than normal deds systems, and hopefully "The way you want us to play the game" isn't to wait for too long, ending up on different servers while in a party, getting different messages when kicked from lobbies etc. Another problem is people dropping out just before the game starts because of the map that is coming up, making the entire lobby closing and you having to start all over on your massive quest to find a playable server.

Ok thanks bro. Only problem I will have with that is I am playing at work and there is no way in hell I will be able to change to an unsecure system. Considering the reports of unscrupulous players using the insecurity of the system to send viruses and other nefarious software.
I do find it slightly amusing that we have to compromise security to be able to connect to a server without hassle.
On another note. Now that the perks have been made so insanely valuable (wallhacks, knifing from 10 metres away etc etc), the gap between new players and veteran players is huge. meaning you'll spend most of your time getting dominated to shit because you didn't start playing on release.
I've had people running normally at twice the speed I can sprint, knifing me from 5 metres away, from outside screen (the FoV is so small I find it hard to focus on anything directly in front of me).
Or the guys who sit inside buildings surroudned by claymores or turrets; shooting at people through walls with their infrared scoped rifles.
And just as you get into the flow of a map (ie: running in circles shooting directly in front of you), the game takes you back to lobby because we're only allowed 5 minutes of gameplay in case god forbid we should get sick of the levels.
Sorry to keep bashing it but there's a lot wrong with this considering how great MW1 was.
How's the MMO?

-
Why are most (if not all ?) MP maps circular? It wasnt like that on MW1.

bla bla fast knife
As I said, Care Package glitch (take out the grenade, start sprinting with Maraton Pro, Lightweight Pro and Commando Pro while using an handgun with tacti-cool knife attachment. Gives you something like 150% more speed than just the perks and weapon.
Besides that, getting "Pro" perks doesn't take much time, atleast not the ones worth getting, you just got to work steady on actually getting the kills in the way you need.External Content www.youtube.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms. Anyone having problems with forwarding ports should check out http://portforward.com/ you just have to choose your router model on the first screen, and then the application on the second screen, and you will get a step by step guide for that specific router and application.

Considering how specific the requirements are to produce it I don't think it's all that unreasonable for a team to miss it. The ratio of players vs playtesters must be at least 1 million to 1, after all.
In Killing Floor, which has been ported to a new engine and gotten about a dozen patches, has had a spot in the Biotics map where players can hide and crouch and no zombie except the ranged Siren can hurt them. It's still in the current version of the game. I was showed it by a server op the other day when I joined a server that had a mutator to turn every single zombie spawn into the Fleshpound, and the server difficulty set to Suicidal Long. Anybody not crouched hiding in that exploit spot couldn't possibly survive the round, so the game was just spawn, buy a melee weapon, run to spot, spend the next ten minutes slowly meleeing a hundred of the strongest common enemies in the game to death from safety, go buy armor and pipe bombs if you feel like it, maybe upgrade your melee weapon to something better, repeat.
I really didn't get the appeal of it.
If you wanted to grind XP there are maps for Killing Floor similar to Achievement Maps in TF2. -
I was also asked more than once in 1 vs 1 cage matches (mw2) to grind for xp. I shoot the opponent, he shoots me, repeat. Silly...might as well cheat then.

Bulletproof leaves and exploding cars are not hard to reproduce for the army of QA that game will have had.

Oh, sorry, I thought you were talking about that faster run thing st0lve was talking about where with a certain loadout while holding a certain item you unlock from a specific killstreak you can run faster.

-
Actually in the modern warfare mythbusters youtube video they show that simply holding the carepackage marker you move faster.
if that was a design choice it was certainly an odd one.
