We are having some problems with NAT settings and getting peeps into game but we are working on some tweaks that should make it better.

The day one buyers posting about their experiences trying to forward ports and enable upnp and stuff to get MW2 MP working have been pretty hilarious. Lots of jokes about how that's SO MUCH EASIER than using a server browser.

It makes me pretty appreciative for stuff like W:ET and TF2 that works out of the box. The only times I've ever actually needed to forward a port were to get a Doom source port's online coop working (soooo worth it, omg).

ok stop doing this, mapcore is a forum with a lot of industry professionals and one of the rare places where you can actually talk to them. Stop posting like angry 15 year olds on steamforums or whatever. This thread is really becoming ridiculous

Gloglebag's post wasn't balanced for arguing, I think he was just poking fun

Was thinking of doing a new thread without all the PC discussion noise, but I figured it would spread there as well anyway.

If it's stupid, but works, then it's not stupid.

Played some more SP, oh god I am sweaty now.

1 thing bugged me, might just be my head that doesn't catch it, or it might be a bug:

I DC, after you take down the white house for the first time, you crash in your chopper and then get 1 magazine to shoot ruskies, then the mission ends and you start up with taskfore 141, when that mission ends, you get back into the crashed chopper at exactly the same spot, is given "last magazine" and then the Whiskey Hotel mission starts.

I'll wait a few days before I really comment on the MP, because probably half of the people doesn't have it yet due to the Steam delay

. I'm liking the maps so far in the MP. Invasion was like a more dense and intertwined Crash, I'm liking it a lot, nice and flat, not too many vertical vantage points (from what I could tell).

Goddamn, slinging BSP must be fun for you guys, I'm envious.

While the graphics are awesome (I have the PS3 version) the amazing blood splatter on the screen when you take damage makes it a lot harder to see than the red stuff on the screen in just about any other game (past CoD games including). And when this happens, due to my lack of FPS skill in my old age of being over 25, I die a lot in SP. yes, I'm playing on only normal difficulty. It's a little annoying but so far the presentation is, as expected, pure IW awesomeness.

I'm dreading playing MP since no doubt i will get utterly destroyed online.

I've been playing SP and MP and I gotta say this is one fucking awesome game. I love the multiplayer and single player experience is just top notch. Oh and I'm playing on PC and all the dedicated server petition kids should try it and see how it works, because it just works: no lag, no waiting in line, instant access to servers. Love it.

If it looks really really good, then one hour is enough. At least that's how it goes these days... Even if the game doesn't look that good...

Maybe because it's an awesome game, and people just play it in one play trough.

I really hope the SP is awesome, MP is important, but its the SP i'm getting this game for. Only in December though!

CompoSITe, congratulations for shipping this! I guess you can be proud of yourself, and the team you work on.

There's no way on Earth Valve takes a bigger slice than Walmart + the cost of physically printing and distributing copies.

*shrug* it could have many reasons, maybe Activision wants to keep Valve (a competitor) away from the day 1 sales.

Finished sp, just got better and better. They really did a fantastic job. I love how it feels like they didn't hold back one bit, like it was their last game. Really hate the unfinished cliffhanger trend these days.

Also what about this, these folks claim IW copied a community map http://www.codboards.com/showthread.php?t=31565 ?

Love to read more MP experiences from PC players, my impression is that it works better then expected. But there have been some good writeup of bad experiences,

    like here.

The following game, I got a taste of two bars, which is not a taste you want to remember. As I hit escape to drop from the game and pick another server with a better connection I had to stop myself and remember: "no, you can't do that in Modern Warfare 2." Every game really is rolling the dice. Perhaps your host's connection was good in the lobby, but if their sister starts watching YouTube videos, their email client kicks in, or just about any other conceivable connection-interfering setback occurs, you're in for a bumpy ride. So I didn't bail on the game with my yellow, two bar ping substitute flickering away. And boy did I pay for it. Sprinting off at the start of the map proved difficult. I'd hit my sprint key, sprint forward a couple of steps, and slow to Modern Warfare 2's normal canter. At first I thought perhaps this was some strange, new imposition given to the full automatic "Overwatch" class, but no. What was actually happening was the lag was kicking in. I was to find with better hosts one tap of the button was all it would take to set me off and running.

My solution on laggy hosts is to hold the sprint button down for about a second - that seems to "register" with the host and you're happy. It got me thinking though - even though the rest of your commands are usually immediately shown occurring on screen - the host is obviously getting a different picture. If I round a corner and run into an enemy and make a snap shot at them - is it going to be registering in time or will it be like the sprint key - a blip quickly forgotten?

The last time PC online FPS gamers had to worry about things like these we were using dialup. Nowadays, we look at our server browser, pick a fast pinging server - preferably one we know is cheat free - and off we go. Ending up on an overseas server? It's been over a decade since we could accidentally end up somewhere foreign by accident. Prepare for it to happen a fair bit in Modern Warfare 2. In the few hours I have devoted to multiplayer to date, despite being in a hotbed of games activity - California on the US West Coast - the matchmaking software has sent me to games in England, Eastern Europe and on the other side of the country. They all usually show up as two bars. Great if you're feeling like sampling other cultures, not ideal if you want a fast, responsive first person shooter.

The games I've played on PC with three bars are not much better. You can still shudder every now and then. It's better than two, but not only would PC gamers notice something is wrong - a console player would too. Clearly three bars on MW2 PC does NOT equal three bars on MW2 console.

Inconsistent connection reporting aside, the way the host migration has been executed on PC is anything but smooth. In my second game ever (yes, straight to two bars) the host disconnected mid-game. What followed was not what we've seen in those YouTube videos. The game hunted around the remaining players, flashing the screen a few times until it settled on the least worst option (I was still two bars) - ten or so seconds of this took place before the game finally started counting down from five to resume play. So it's not a five second delay when the host is playing silly buggers - start at 15 and work your way upwards.

No wonder IW were able to make such good maps for WM2

yeah it had nothing to do with actually having any talent right? and i presume they just got lucky with those you know, dozens of single player maps?

some people man, i wish i could kick this cunt in the spine.
