Max Payne 3, developed by Rockstar Vancouver, tells the story of a retired police detective embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence.

The award-winning Max Payne franchise put players in the role of Max Payne, a hard-boiled New York City detective with a penchant for violence, out to avenge the death of his family. The latest installment delivers more of the classic elements and hyper-intense action that fans have come to love, while moving the story of Max in a new direction."We’re starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.

Max Payne 3 will be available in winter 2009 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

I don't mind if it's well done. It's not like they put out a new MP game every year...

they don't pull a new halo or killzone every year either, but that doesn't mean the games are going to be good.

Didn't they already announce and then abandon MP3 once already?

Plus if you wanna get pedantic MP2's ending credits announce MP3.

I like Max Payne and would gladly play another if it was made as well as MP2. There's nothing inherently wrong with a sequel or continuation of an old IP. New IPs are nice but that doesn't mean you should decry every single sequel.

Max Payne was an absolutely superb pair of games, so I thoroughly welcome this.

i might add that in the same way that bethesda made fallout 3 more like oblivion, there's a good chance that rockstar will skew the game more towards gta.

You do realize Rockstar published Max Payne 2 as well, right? And they've made non-GTA style games, unlike Bethesda and Oblivion style games? Manhunt, Table Tennis, Max Payne, etc?

Rockstar loves to annaunce game without any screens...

That doesn't change that I'm waiting for that title Cool, but RS might do some crap from that title...

do you know the difference between publisher and developer? because, you know, remedy entertainment developed both games.

nice. been looking forward to a sequel since finishing max payne 2. too bad remedy isn't making the game but then again rockstar is the only other developer i'd trust to make a decent sequel for max payne. i wouldn't mind a slightly more open world either as long as they keep the detailed surroundings and tight storytelling of the previous installments.

that bad teaser illustration and website seem more like a joke to me btw.

Shouldn't say anything until I've actually seen something proper from it, but judging from that teaser image then it looks like they're going in a more badditudish direction. I certainly hope thats not the case. Having him suddenly be a hobo or whatever might be a change, but not a good one in my eyes. To be honest I don't even know where I'd take a third MP game, the first two were just so damn good that It'd be freaking hard to top.

Anyway, I definitely don't have high hopes for this so far, then again, I'm being a whiny bastard thats basing it on a short press statement and a teaser picture.

The teaser image looks like the art from "The Lost And Damned", prolly same artist.

I'm a bit confused, in what way was 3D Realms involved last time? (MP2) Is Rockstar both dev and pub this time?

I trust Rockstar in this one, seems like hobo's (if that's what he is) is the way to go nowdays (Condemned 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction) and looking forward to see a full frontal of Mona Sax (just like the full frontal in Lost and Damned) ;D
