I'd like to see the gman fire laserbeams from his eyes.
No I think the g-man should just stay the mysterious government guy in a suite that he is. I dont wanna know who he is.. That would ruin his mysteriousness. ![]()

I bet Breem and G-Man are involved in some sort of cosmic war in an alternate dimension, where they pit factions of terrorists and counter-terrorists against each other in repetitive, epic battles. OH yeah. It all coems full circle.
wow fletch thats insightful
it's like layers on top of layers
lol Taylor, truer words were never spoken
Everywhere I read "the HL2 plot is absolutely amazing", but when I think about it by now, I must say: "What plot?"
I am sure once HL3 or 4 or 5 is released or how many sequels so ever Valve will need to clear up everything, I'll be also like "ahhh now everything makes sense!" but for now HL2 is a very entertaining sequel with many interesting gameplay ideas in a cool environment without a concluding story.
The question is, can a singleplayer game be the best of all time when the player doesn't understand the plot?
You are all idiots.
I found this to sum things up pretty well. Some stuff is really speculatory, but it gives a good run of things nonetheless.

This video shows that HL2 is not a flawless game, focusing on hitboxes and AI.
I don't feel that these aspects gave me much trouble when I played the game, but I agree on the message of the video which says that "HL2 is a great fps, one if not the best game of this year, but it isn't the best game of all times".
No game is perfect I guess, and it will be a rare thing to see future complex games like Half-Life 2 be flawless either.

That was just stupid.
Tell me what's the best game ever in your opinion and I'll show you its flaws.
I don't think HL2 is necessarily the best game ever but it is the best FPS ever IMO.
That was stupid, but the thing with ur enemies just running to the same point and keeps getting slaugthered is kind of uncool
Farcry had better AI imo, although it was rather buggy occasionally and a better sense of hitboxes. In farcry the enemy actually died pretty much instantly of a headshot no matter what skill level you played on and you actually noticed it. It doesn't feel right in HL2.

No game is flawless and in the end it's all a matter of perspective, but from my point of view, a very linear, scripted game with mediocre AI and not so overwhelming graphics is not the major breakthrough in PC games history (unlike most PC game mags want to tell you). No doubt that it still is a kickass game though, with one of the most immersive atmospheres a player has seen so far.

Most groundbreaking game is radically different than "best game ever".
HL2 is the best game that I've ever played, and the one I enjoy the most. Trespasser was completely groundbreaking with first full physics-engine, but it was hard to find a game buried inside that pile of poo ![]()
Exactly. And all this "but it's linear!" bullshit is starting to annoy me. Newsflash: few games are non-linear; Deus Ex, for example, is linear, but you are given a certain amount of leeway in your actions. However, it still follows a narrative path that will carry you from the beginning to a choice of three definite endings. Films are linear - HL2 is like a fine action film, only one you have control over.
Basically, linearity is NOT a bad thing, so stop using it as a negative aspect for HL2.
Now, I can safely say that HL2 is my favourite game, the best I've played since the original HL, which in-turn was the best I'd played since those magical SNES classics - Mario World, Link To The Past, Super Metroid etc. and, of course, the modding potential blows my mind; another reason to absolutely love the thing. But of course, that's just my viewpoint. I'm sorry if you can't truly enjoy HL2 like I can, for whatever reasons, but man, don't totally rain on its oh-so-fine parade.
Some sort of freedom would be appreciated, for example, the city is too linear which makes it feel less like a city. The areas where you can fight the striders are too restricted. It felt mostly like a box with striders.
Maps with more A and B objectives before you can continue give a sense of freedom. Think of the area with the tentacles in HL1 or the building with the generator thingiesin HL2 . Too linear areas break the illusion of a fully functional world.
