I was gonna hold off as well for the same reasons. I already know I'm getting the game so I'm just ruining the intro for myself because I can...

Well DoW II beta was a let down and convinced me to possibly reconsider buying it if things aren't changed so maybe this demo will help me buy fear 2

Well, that was quite enjoyable. Alma is as creepy as ever. The demo ran suprisingly smooth even on max settings on my rig.

    Wow, very nice demo.

Even though it's another post apocalyptic game, it was so colourful, the environments really are beautifully detailed and very well realised.

i tried it. i never actually played the first one, so jumping into the game in medias res felt awkward. i feel compelled to ask, is there anything but story and fighting involved, or are there puzzles as well? i understand there's much startling and mind fuckery abound, but is there more depth than that?

i enjoyed it, although there was no real point where i got terrified or scared like in e.g. stalker.

I wouldn't expect any real puzzle solving type situations, at least going by the original. It's pretty even balance of scary shit and shooting guys in slow-mo. The demo really caught me off guard in one spot, I guess it's cause I wasn't expecting it from the demo for some reason.

If you haven't already, check out the first Condemned. It's a truly awesome game, ranks way above FEAR, I think. Lots more environmental activity and exploration and a lot more unnerving.

I really want to play it, but like HP, I feel it would spoil the game somewhat for me. The first F.E.A.R. had a stand alone demo which was a copy and paste from bits of the full game but if this is actually part of the game, I don't wanna know. I get annoyed how most demos these days have the intros to the full game.

I'm so excited about this anyway, loved the original so I'll be getting this on release day

I've actually heard a bunch of bad things about this, at least from the PC elitists. Poor widescreen support, can't map mouse4 and 5 (even though you could in FEAR), worse AI and action than the original game.

Man so many games have had that letterbox widescreen issue. Can't people make widescreen?

Well, it suffers from being aimed at Consoles tbh, the combat is not as good as the original.

Generally its not bad but it feels bad. (worse than the original FEAR)

Isn't this supposed to be a next-gen game? What's with those lame rubble piles?

Also I still hate that rounded HUD, and I've hated it ever since I first saw it in the earliest game footage. :/ A minimalistic design means nothing when it's got empty space on the outside and curves into the game viewing area. It's so distracting looking.

If you remember the very first hospital footage, Becket picks up a pair of glasses which then activates the hud, it's supposed to be a floating VGUI HUD, information fed directly to the player's sight. I think it works quite well, all the extra info is toggable and it's not like there's that much on the screen really.

I couldn't resist firing up the demo, figured that I'd need to try it out to see if it would run on my old machine before I went ahead and bought it and it does, nicely. A lot of effects and detail are set to low and textures are on medium but it still looks damn sexy.

Took some screenshots, nothing really spoilerish, I think this demo level is a mishmash of levels from the full game just like the first F.E.A.R. demo. So go ahead and play it HP, it wont spoil the full game

Big question to Monolith has to be, what's with the stencil shadows?! I could swear F.E.A.R. had soft shadows...

Could you turn off the blue frame around the HUD?
