Does the multiplayer have anything else than this what's available (control points, annihilation)? Also looks like all the maps in this beta are the ones that we are getting in the full game. Nothing else :/

I don't know about any other game modes. And who says that about the maps? The first DoW 1 beta only had like 2 maps to play I'm sure there will be others than the ones in the beta now. Not that it will make the game any better or worth the money.

Five maps in the beta + additional ones after the release as a patch.

So, five maps in the full release. Ehhh..

While the game is scheduled to ship with five available multiplayer maps, Noseworthy revealed that Dawn of War II would receive two additional multiplayer maps within the first week of the game's release.http://pc.ign.com/articles/946/946480p1.html

Wow that is pretty poor. Relic really has dropped the ball on this.

They didn't found any level designers to do some more multiplayer maps ? Except all the beta testing, making a level for Dow 2 doesn't looks like a big deal ..This is really weird

I'd dig up the news post if I wasn't lazy but it was something like "Relic very interested in paid DLC"

So, maybe that's the reason for the lack of maps? How that'll work on PC is beyond me.

I downloaded it last night from steam, why the hell are we forced to use "games for windows live" whats wrong with relic's servers to play. It worked for dow1. So after many many attempts to login using my xbox account, and getting the same "you account is invalid" the beta came and went for me. I'll keep playing dow1 and Company of Heroes, having to use GFW i'll be passing on my purchase.

They should of gone with Steam.

Finally finished downloading this last night, took awhile. Hoping to check it out more thoroughly tonight. I only fired it up to change some video settings but the Windows Live integration at least seemed less of a pain than Gear PC was.

Just played a game vs the computer. How crap is this game? They seem to have got rid of 80% of the stuff from the original, everything comes out of the HQ now and what there is, is a terrible selection. All that seems to have happened is they've made it pretty and dumbed it down majorly.

    Fail.

Played a few matches, both online and vs comps. So far I'm digging the emphasis on units and heroes. I found base building in both DoW I and CoH to be pretty much irrelevant after the first minute or two of the game - they really had no significant impact on how things played out. Plus, the only useful stuff like turrets and mines are still placeable anyway.

But, the unit counts and battle sizes being scaled back is a bit of a downer. The spectacle of DoW was really what pushed it ahead of every other RTS and that might be hard to reach outside of a 3v3. Still, the game looks great and has lots of little abilities and items to play around with.

    I APPROVE.

It brings a tear to the eye doesn't it?

Hmm, sounds like I might not enjoy this too much. One of the things I liked most about Dawn of War was the enjoyable base building, upgrading, etc. It was fun building outposts all over the map and shit.

I can see that they want to do something different, but it seems extremely strange to use the Dawn of War IP to do that with. Clearly Dawn of War was an extremely well received game by players, and to be honest it was a milestone in RTS enjoyability for me. To basically shun all those original fans by effectively creating a different game under the same banner is bizarre, rather than evolving what was laid out in Dawn of War.

Dawn of War 1 also had a big competitive player base, which is quite rare for most RTS' games. With the new DoW I don't see it happening again. I enjoyed one of the posts made by one of the ravenous fans that is quick to defend everything about Dawn of War II. It went like this "So what if there was a competitive player base for DoW 1? Relic aren't making DoW II for them, so fuck them no one cares about them." Combine that with the fact you CANT mod for the fucking game makes me wonder what the hell is the point of this game? There's nothing good about it apart from the graphics.

I think it was a bold move, they are clearly trying something new. IF this shit actually had worked it might have revoloutionized the genre or made up its own.

    But, since it didnt...

The point is they didn't need to. It was perfectly fine how it was.

I am really enjoying it but then again I only ever played the demo of COH's so I might think differently if I was really into it. Only problem is it’s out Feb19th and Halo Wars is out on the 28th. And buying any new Halo game is a legal and moral requirement for me.

It's pretty interesting all of this. Reading around the DoW forums and stuff this game has really split everyone down the middle.

Speaking of Halo Wars I just got early demo access so I can do a preview for an Xbox fan site I write for.
