this is mostly for all you guys who work at game dev companies.....does the company do anything to get you guys "motivated" or do your job better? like special perks or traveling or something like that?

We get pizza day once a month, movie day (at the megaplex uber-screen theater just down the block), and profit-sharing bonuses on all titles (even on games you didn't work on, apparently, but much less than those who did work on it) after you've been there for 3 months.

Everyone always seems to be in a pretty good mood, regardless. Average length of employment at Raven is 6 years, I think (if I recall correctly). A few people have left since I arrived, but not many and none for a while (and those that did were all on excellent terms).

pizza+beer for me. once a month.

oh also free fruits on wednesdays and bagels on fridays. The lunch is quite cheap and its good. We have our very own cafeteria on the 5th floor and quite the selection of different hot foods and salads etc...

There's also a gym at the office that all employees can use free of charge. Hmmm what else... Oh yeah, we play games during lunch (of course) - There are usually several servers running CS:S and QUAKE III every day.

My project also has something we call the DOLL OF SHAME which is basically a plastic model of darth maul with a light saber. the DOS is handed to people who do shameful things, like breaking builds or missing team meetings. Its got sound, moves, and so on

We are getting a new building sometime next year. Room for 150, more aesthetically pleasing environments (I think more wood paneling, non-fluorescent lighting, exposed rafters/girders and the like, all cool and stuff), its own mo-cap studio, weight room, improved kitchen, and access to facilities in the other buildings next to us. That'll be really awesome.

Our guys are mostly split between Call of Duty and Rocket Arena at lunch and after hours. A few might still play UT2K4. We play another game now and then, too.

Ken and I have some fun in our cubes, though no doll of shame... We have the dead chair, for one. His chair was bad. Eric Biessman sat in it and declared he (Ken) needed a new chair immediately. I took Ken's old chair as a drastic step up from my previous one. My old one now lies on the ground between our cubes with a hole in it from where I stabbed it with a pen. It has also been headcrabbed.

I also keep a section from a Far Cry promo I saved from GameStop and have it looking into Ken's cube. I'm going to start decorating him with various hats for various occasions, starting with Christmas. Teehee.

    hookers.

that or free games (i play shooters as part of my research)

my boss often takes out our groups to movies on fridays....though like once a quarter and hit has to be a kick ass movie.

we get a holiday party each year...um........we have a softball team in a local league plus other sports.

we also play game on the lan after 5, though usually means at 6 we all go back to work for a while. in crunch time we'll often order in pizza and work real late.

Well, we get really good food from our cantina (it costs like $20 a month, which is a joke considering the quality of the food), we get discount on all Eidos games, we used to get this card that would work with most cinemas so that you could goto the cinema for free (just 1 person tho), but they stopped that since one of previous owners sold its shares to Eidos (they're this big danish movie/cinema company thing). Also we have the game and movie libraries, where u can borrow pretty much any new game (theres usually a couple of copies of the latest games). The DVD club u have to pay like $20 a month for, but there is also a whole lot of movies there. Oh yah, free soda and stuff.

Im prolly forgetting something, but its nice to work here

Free drinks here too of course.

And Desert Combat after 6pm (this has been reducted though, because it kept the programmers away from working )
