Well, maybe. Former MapCore regular and creator of Garry's Mod revealed last week that his mod has sold an insane 312,541 copies on Steam thus far, which at a rate of $10 per copy means it's netted revenue of approximately $3,125,410.

No idea how much of this actually filtered through as obviously Valve takes a cut and whatnot, but wow. It must be inspirational to see how much he's come on from first posting those crappy screenshots in #mapcore of experiments he was doing weeks after HL2 came out.

Well actually Valve is not taking a small cut (50%) but 1.5 million for such a time wasting/addicting mod. congrats and whatnot.

Valve must have some kind of special arrangement with Garry, because I'm fairly sure that someone working on games being released via Steam told me a few months ago that Valve takes a 10% cut. skdr evidently heard/knows this from somewhere too.

yeah it's 50/50 and valve didn't charge for source and steam usage so it's a pretty good deal, esp. considering garry no has something like 1,6 million $.

I guess Valve had in mind such kind of split deal for mods from the beginning, at least when people talked about selling Dystopia in Steam if I remember correctly. Just this generation of mods didn't get there.

    Its just another job...

But good going garry! hardwork and good ideas pay off.

    Heh, that was my point.

I'm sure he had plenty of expenses not to mention I would think he had a few other people help him out with gmod, so i'm sure some of the money got spread around.

Does anyone know if he plans on any other projects or is gmod his sole focus right now?
