Version Control (Mod Related)

    Hey guys (& girls?),

    I recently started a new project, and I would like to use a version control system.

    Basically, this system makes the devs able to commit or update stuff from a local folder, connected to an FTP.

    You then don't have to access FTP's or databases, but you are able to stay on the latest version of the project.

    Now I tried using TortoiseSVN, and tried to connect this to our FTP.

    Unfortunately I was not able to set up SVN correctly, because my PC constantly freezes when I try to connect.

    So my question is, what kind of programs / methods do you guys use to stay on the latest version of the project?

    SVN is pretty much the cross-industry standard for version control. We use SVN for web projects (I work in web design/development), and any project I've ever been involved with that has version control has also used SVN. TortoiseSVN has always been the client of choice.
