    Hey everyone,

I finally bought my Wacom. As it's really expensive where I live (about U$200 in "official" stores), I bought the simpler one: Bamboo MTE 450. I watched a bunch of DVDs from Ryan Church and Mark Goerner (Gnomon Workshop) and decided to try a more serious drawing. Here is the result:

    [Blocked Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v385/Fergo/barragem_final800.jpg]

It took me about 5 hours, from start to finish (and my hand is kind of hurt now). I used Corel Painter X.

For those who also have a wacom tablet: the tip of the pen starts wearing too fast? Min0 thinks I'm paranoid (), but the tip of the pen here is not round anymore as it was when I received the tablet, and It's only one week old. Is that common?

    Thanks!

Looks pretty cool. Perhaps a little more distinction between the cliff wall and ground.

I don't know how it is like with the Bamboo pen but I've got an Intuos 2 and it's aeons old (I think my brother has bought it back in 2001 or something) and the pen's fine.

    Thanks!

I think I was pressing the pen higher than needed. I re-adjusted some sliders in the control panel and calibrated the pen again in Corel Painter. Now it seems fine.

    Good first attempt.

    Few things:

    - your perspective is a bit off, it morphs in the front

    - put some color in the shadows, some saturated blues and saturated purples

    - also i think if you image told some sort of a story, it would work alot better, right now its just a dam

off to a good start i guess

    crtis:

-spend more time with lighting rather than structure !

-from this camera angel and assuming the water is perfectly level (water usually is) id expect the horizon line to be way further in the back (higher in screenspace)

-tell a bit more of a story with this picture or show us something we havent seen before if this is supposed to be concept art why don't i just find a photograph from the hoover dam on goggle image search and use that instead ? think about that

i think you are heading in a good direction ! keep on rocking

    Thanks for the tips

I was out of town for about two weeks and tried another one on my notebook, this time with a more futuristic look (as I was out of town, I was unable to read your tips until today). To be honest, I'm not satisfied with this illustration, but I'm posting it anyway (and don't ask wtf is happening on the scene )
