That's fucking insane. What i don't get is: If people are so poor that they kill someone over a 100$ saving on a shitty ass chinese HD Ready TV at 5am shouldn't they be more bothered about important things? Getting food on the table or a shelter at night for example?

That's actually a good point, someone should be charged in these cases but I don't think anyone ends up being held accountable. Part of it seems to be difficulty in identifying anyone in particular. Wal-Mart at least should be charged for encouraging this kind of shit, or at least not trying to prevent it in any significant way.

That should actually be enforceable if the US has a reasonable bunch of laws for labour conditions and stuff I'd reckon. Or at least I'd think if an employee here in Switzerland had been injured by idleness of the employer to potential dangers (eg. no safety precautions, etc.), the employee would be able to sue their asses.

My wife tells me the part of New York that store was...she doesn't doubt that would happen. She's from Yonkers and knows the neighborhoods to avoid I guess (especially on black friday). The sad part is the dude that was killed was pushed against glass until it broke.

...No. For those of you that don't know, "black friday" is the day after Thanksgiving (A U.S. holiday) where just about all stores open early and have a huge price sale on thier merchandise. Sometimes cutting prices by 60-75% on such big ticket items like HDtv's and camera's. It works on a "first come first serv basis"...hence the stampede of people.

It's so insane no word can describe exactly how totally unreal this all is.

I have a theory about how societies will sooner or later react towards these acts, this one being the most insanely pointless and stupid of a long list of "consequential uncivilities". You can see in certain countries a resurgence in politics of the need to educate people better, specifically on how to act in a society in a respectful way. Certain countries are thinking of implementing an obligatory civil service to your nation (in case you don't join the army).

Well here's my theory. This won't be enough, and after all is said and done and this is put in place and such events still occur, the outcry from the large majority of the population will force politicians to vote laws that will temporarily or permanently revoke any of your civil rights as a citizen.

One of the main argument in the "vote now" campaigns is that voting is a right and a duty, this kinda message is getting across, and when it's finally sunk in that your entire citizenship in any country means you have rights as well as duties, societies will willingly take away your former if you don't respect your latter. People right now all too often expect to be given things without thinking twice about their own role in society. That's individualism for you. The backlash as always will go too far the other direction, but it will come.
