Cant wait man, which levels did you work on?
This one will get my money!
grats furyo
Looks superb. I've watched a video review of it on gametrailers and the game looked very smooth gameplay-wise. I won't comment much on the art from the low rez-video, but it looked epic and amazing even then.
Is it coming out on PCs as well?
It's coming out on PC and Steam Dec. 10th, the consoles get it a week earlier, next tuesday in the US and thursday in Europe.
IGN UK gave it a 9.4, and OPM gives it an 8/10 and "action/adventure game of the year"
I designed 5 different maps in the Ruined Citadel region, the one mostly shown with the Hunter boss and E3 demo. Scripted 3 maps too.
Wow, impressive artistic style. I thought this comment from the IGN video review described it nicely:
Playing Prince of Persia is like running through a water colour painting
Congrats Furyo, you've sold me.
fantastic art style! apart from that i cant really say too much. But wow :] this is a refreshing look!
I've only played the very first Prince or Persia
Will defo get this one though.

I will buy this game. ![]()
I'm very very curious about how in the world they achieve this unique visual style!
Does anyone have an article, video, anything about this?
You know, I was talking to an artist this morning about art styles. I've predicted since seeing Mirrors edge ages ago, that the overused grunge look will be replaced by a clean modern one. It's funny how most developers follow a trend and that it changes every now and then.

That's an interesting observation. I wonder if it's the developers, the players, or a combination of both that drive these trends?
In some respects it makes sense, no different to trends or movements in art, fashion and music culture.

survival of the fittest: whatever style is more popular stays. if another one is tried, it's tried against its own survival. e.g. the modern style of mirror's edge might not prevail because people don't like it. over time, the prejudice of people seems to fade, the intial reaction is always the strongest.

This trailer was interesting and painful to watch at the same time!

The headline got it right.

PS. Now what furyo? Are you going to stay at ubisoft and work on a next title?
I'm working on a smaller project right now, for a few months, then we'll see what other AAA I can work on.
i bought it on friday. i am about 75% through it but i can already say this was a HUGE let down dare i say an absolute disaster.
i really wanted to love this game after all i adored the sands of time trilogy ( even loved the second one that everyone else hates).
but this game is just a complete train wreck.
ill give you guys my run down:
-free roaming adds absolutely nothing but backtracking and confusion
-combat ... sigh ... i think i could fill an entire book with whats wrong with it but ill try to boil it down to just my biggest issue: a successful hit and a missed/blocked hit are not supposed to have the same particle fx and sound hmmk ! not every games combat system can be as good as god of wars but i would have totally settled for the combat from the old pop games over this D:
- grinding .... really ? someone at ubi thought that grinding was THE FEATURE that the prince of persia games were lacking ? collecting those light-seeds is super annoying and they are not even aligned on "one" optimal path you have to run up and down a level 3 times before you have nearly enough to advance.
- no rewards for exploration ... or anything really i haven't gained a single power or new weapon or health bar extension or anything for all my troubles ... thats the problem with getting rid of health bars and pretty much everything ...
-story /writing /dialogue --> awful .... but not worse than the other 3 pop games though
-those jump pads !!!! grrr first of all i want to say that i loved how all the gameplay was grounded in the architecture in the old pop games that was THE feature for me. but now thanks to the jump pads every climb combo can go anywhere at all times making it impossible to plan ahead where you need to go in order to reach a specific spot.
-flying !!! despite looking really silly was it really necessary to fill 3/4 of the screen with particle fx so that you can hardly see where you are going and what obstacles to dodge ... and she is really good at heading for those columns straight on and i have to try and error guess if she wants me to go to the left or to the right and only one way ever works.
-corruption post filter/color scheme is ugly! all the time in the game while i am not frustrated by the grinding / backtracking but while i am actually making progress and move forward the levels are all dark and murky and look 10 times less good than when they are healed but at that point i don't care anymore.
-why does elika always teleport you back to the beginning of a level/section and not back to where you messed up your last jump ... with the sand of time i could rewind to exactly my moment of failure and fix it that was way better.
-those rotation cranks !!! the new prince is soo weak he cant turn them by himself thats already pretty pathetic ... but once elika has grabbed it i can never for the hell of it figure out which one of the two i am controlling because the game seams to always figure out how to make the crank move in the direction i didn't press into.
-the camera can not be rotated more than 90 degree while hanging form a wall making it impossible to see where you would jump ...this is such a classic and easy to fix issue ... yatzzee is gonna have afield day with this one.
-the rings where you have to press circle (i have a ps3) after a wall run (X button) he grabs the rings automatically and successfully swings around and if you want another wall run after that you don't press the wall run button X again but circle WTF !!!!!!! same goes for vertical climbing with rings and ceiling runs id expect it to be either X-"automaticringgrab"-X or X-"grabringbypressingcircle"-X not X "automaticanimationyouhavenocontrollover" circle.
-i can digg the painterly look they are going for but SHADOWS DONT NEED OUTLINES !
-no enemys but the same 5 endbosses copy pasted a billion times D:
-the little particle navigation guide you can summon with triangle all though super useful goes through walls and the floor sometimes and more than 5 times it actually had me chasing my own tail in a circle around the level.
-
Quotelast boss fights attacks are all completely worthless the only thing that made this area hard was the fact that the camera was black and white and so far away that i couldn't tell if there was a gab on that ledge or not / if i had reach the end of the ivy or not
so lets get to the redeeming values:
+there finally is a real jump button \o/
+i like the visual design of both new main characters alot
+art and tech are rock solid
+love all the shared animation between elika and the prince especial the swap animation when hanging from edges or walking narrow boards it almost looks like they are dancing it looks really cute and romantic.
+the corruption goo and tentacles look cool and how they react to you when you pass by
+ elikas double jump feels super satisfying and even elevates you up to the optimal vantage point when needed.
+
Quotethe story conclusion was brilliant i kind of expected her to die once the tree of life was restored with the light seeds (kind of predictable) but that you are giving the chance to do the same choice her father did was awesome !!! ... there was something that spoiled this sequence for me though once i went out into the desert to find the trees the streaming messed up and the sand-height-field/collision disappeared and i fell out of the world and guess who WASNT dead and was ready to safe me right than and there ?

the bad far outweigh the good which is a real shame because i had sort of a bet going with mazy where
i took the stance that this will be an absolute grand master piece while he dismissed it ...
his stance was that he would rather play "avatar the last airbender" for "achievement points"
bottom line for everyone:
go get tomb raider underworld instead
/edit: i still love you though furyo
/edit 2: just finished it the ending was really cool ! all in all 6.5/10 ( omg i hate giving decimals
)
All valid points too. You seem to be among the 5-6/10 peeps, which we all knew we'd get. As a player, I agree with many of your points, and you have no idea how some of us fought hard to try and counter balance that. As a designer though, the "casual highway" Ubisoft imposes on all its games is a challenge. Finding interesting things to do for a hardcore gamer in a "everyone should be able to play and finish the game" game is challenging. (And by everyone, I mean your grandmother while drinking tea with her other hand)
