BioWare & Lucas Arts to announce KOTOR MMO?

Despite Electronic Arts president John Riccitiello's earlier confirmation of a BioWare-developed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic MMO, the two companies have been otherwise mum, the cat remaining halfway in the bag.But looking at that teaser image, there doesn't seem to be much room left for wild speculation. The rest of the invitation reads: "BioWare and LucasArts invite you to attend the official unveiling of the game that's been rumored about for years."

October 21st is the conference, a proper Star Wars MMO would definitely be something that I would look forward to (just so my dreams can be crushed again when the game is set to release :-| )

    Wouldn't we need a 5 first?

I think it's a given that it's Star Wars. The font, style, and everything just screams it. Although I did hear a funny suggestion that it's the Loom MMO the other day.

Too late for me to give a shit about this, sadly D:

They need to pull out some seriously persuasive stuff to get my attention at this point. Bioware are getting kinda watered out at the moment in my opinion, and Star Wars is really overabundant in mediocre content, definitely not a sure hit, if its real that is

I dont wanna be hatin' but I can't help it D:

    And here we go:

http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=1032 - "The Old Republic" MMO revealed

    http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=1034 - Companion characters explained

    http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=1033 - Story details

    http://kotaku.com/5066829/star-wars-the ... vs-screens - Some more concept art

Screenshots look rather underwhelming to be honest ( is up with those over scaled lightsabers?) and I haven't heard of any features yet that got me jumping up and down here. Not impressed :-|

Combat like that in an MMO? Wow, that's awesome!

The space combat in EVE Online looks more impressive and that game is like 7 years old.

Obviously you have never played it then because the combat in eve is boring; push button, do nothing for 5 miinutes, next target. Twitch shooting is far better.

For an MMO this is definitely something new. I found combat in Eve to be extremely boring, it was, as Dark said, simply press a button and let the computer do the work for you.

This is nice, sorta Rogue Squadron like, rather than boring Wow-style combat.

Game play>>> graphics. It's been proven to be a bad idea to push high end graphics for MMO's. WoW is living proof of that.Age of Conan is a prime example of how fail pushing the graphics envelope is in the Mmo world where you rely on millions of subscriptions to pay the bills.

Everything I've seen so far indicates that they're shooting for a similar experience to playing KOTOR in real time with a persistent world. If they pull it off, it would give Blizzard a serious run for their money.

All business decisions aside, AOC is actually a really fun game and deserves more recognition imo.

Anyway, SWTOR: Space combat comes to me as a surprise, I wasn't aware that they planned on adding this to the game. I don't buy into it yet though. Is it a full-blown 360° movement space shooter or do you fly on a designated path with little movement á la Star Fox? I can't really tell from the video.

As a Starfox fan that space combat looks most appealing to me — quite a refreshing change to get gameplay that's actually good in an MMO. Last one I really enjoyed was PlanetSide, mostly because it was just a huge-scale FPS.

The starting area, Tortage, was excellent. Excellent! That's how MMO leveling should be. If the rest of the game had been at that quality, and it hadn't been so broken (I played at release, so I'm sure it's quite different now), I might still be playing it today.
