Hey i was wondering if any of you guys know any good video converting software. I recently bought a video camera but all the files are mpeg and adobe premier cannot associate with them. I as well am going to be getting some video files from other camera's and other sources so i was kinda looking for a all in one converter. hopefully one of you guys can help me out.
Video Converters?

which kind of mpeg are the videos? there are several different versions. i suppose its some mpeg4 derivate. as i recall there are several GUIs for ffmpeg which was always relieable.

I'm surprised Premiere can't recognise your files. It definitely supports MPEGs, although I guess that covers a lot of different sub-types.
Anyway, a great program for converting just about any video format to any other video format is Super. It's been around (and evolving) for years, and I really can't think of anything that comes close — particularly considering that it's free.

Virtual Dub? It's pretty good, too

Im going to try that super one out later tonight
thanks for the quick replies.Hopefully my 4x4 video will be cool :]!

I wouldn't say Virtual Dub comes close, and it's not really a dedicated converter anyway — it doesn't support many formats, including WMV. It's more of a post-processing tool, which Jaboo already has Adobe Premiere for (and that can do it infinitely better).

Yeah, because WMV is a) ultra-proprietary and b) lame and as for the other codecs, you just have to install them to use them (DivX, xVid, Ogg/Theora/Vorbis, etc.)

Sure, but as I said: if you're looking for pure video conversion there's really no equal to Super. That's why I recommended Super and not VirtualDub.

It's not that VirtualDub is bad — I've used it occasionally for years. It's just that Super does what Jaboo wants much better.
