I just played it. Stop reading this and go buy it. Now. GO!
Why are you still here?

Seems to be impossible to get the special galactic edition in the UK. Bit annoying. ![]()
I'll buy it next week when I get paid, though. Already bankrupted myself this month paying for a holiday. ![]()
Am i the only person who doesn't really get all the fuzz around the game? I kinda lost my interest years ago when it startet to look more and more like a game for 5 year olds. And the creature designer that was released earlier this year didnt really help either to create some hype for me.
I'd imagine most Mapcorians are somewhat objective and can appreciate that it is a pretty grand accomplishment of a game, particularly the level of quality with which pretty much any creature shape, etc can be fully animated and used in a whole bunch of game genres. By all accounts it seems to be pretty fun too, albeit not to a degree that's ever going to survive years of sustained hype. Can anything? ![]()
If you can seriously look at Spore and say they haven't done something fairly tremendous then there must be something wrong with your neurons. It was the features that got Spore so hyped up in the first place, and they seem to have delivered on those features and promises as much as you could expect.
I find it an impressive accomplishment, but it isn't my sort of game at all. I'm sure it'll sell well and garner a fair chunk of praise, but I've never really had it on my wanted list.

Exactly!
10 bucks on that it'll be the next "the sims"
i think its really cool mostly for the wide spectrum of gameplay and especially for the fact that you can create your own character and the engine on the fly makes its own animations and stuff for it. id play it but i dont really think it'll have the fan base that the sims enjoys.
I'll uh.. "get" it. ![]()
Never been really interested in it. Will probably turn out like The Sims and get pointless once you've done everything once or twice.
It is technically nice, but I too lost interest as soon as it started to look like a game for 2 year olds. Regardless I will prolly play it at some point.
The biggest issue for me is this:
Mapcore...So brutal. Won't even give Will Wright a chance ![]()
As much as will is a great designer and whatnot. He still wont add story to his games. I personally play games due to the story element or at least the style of it. I mean TF2 has more comical enjoyment out of it and is almost like right out of a road runner cartoon. Sin City / The Sims / Spore are all pretty much simplistic games with no plot nor style. Creature editor looks fun and thats about it \:
My money is going towards BIA this month.
I'm going to buy this, not because it's a marval of animation and code uberness~ but because i've spent quite a bit of time pondering how it will actually play out. I play allot of rts-god games so this should appeal to me, Will Wright is a legend! ![]()
who's will wright?
Pretty interesting article here about what Spore is, etc:

I completely agree with the notion that Spore is to be applauded for bringing out the best of the gaming medium, rather than doing what 99% of other games do nowadays and trying to deliver a film-like experience. Is a game without a plot really so bad?
Don't forget that no matter how much games are dressed up and made to appear mature, they are at their core one thing: toys. Spore is one of the best incarnations of such a thing I've ever seen, personally. I've been playing it, and the hours have melted away while I waste time making things like TF2 sentries and Metal Gear REXes for the sheer hell of it.
I'm sure it'll get old before long, but even at this point it's given me more hours of entertainment than most current-gen games I've played in the past year or so. Damn. ![]()
While it may not be for everyone, it really does do what it intended to do pretty much as well as it could have done. With that said, I can definitely see kids enjoying it the most; it's pretty much the ultimate creativity toy. If I'd had this instead of LEGO when I was a kid I'd never have been off the computer. ![]()
I must be stupid as I don't like articles written like that
Just so happens that allot of edges articles are the same, talk about over analyzing ...

Someone hasn't experienced Tim Rogers.

I would say so. If I had a dollar for every time the word 'cinematic' was dropped. It's kind of sad it's used in the context of describing a game.
Anywho, Spore is great so far. The game gives you almost no reason to stop playing, you're constantly strung along with new things every few minutes. I'm at the tribal phase right now and so far the transitions aren't as sharp as I expected, all of the principals and gameplay in each phase are built upon the last, so it doesn't feel like a series of mini games as I feared.
I also noticed there's like, 5 other creation modes for vehicle types and buildings. I didn't even know there was this much creation to the game ![]()
I haven't gotten it yet but I know it is having an impact when my dad says to me: "So are you getting the game Spore? I read an interview with Wil Wright."
lol awesomeness.
