what!? if the deal was clear, you could at least go back and demand the 50 bucks of servicescosts, right?

Doh...sorry to hear that, Klein. Let this be a reminder to always back up your data before getting your computer worked on (if possible).

    Meanwhile, Logitech mice FTW.

So....I unplugged a digital camera from my computer at home on the weekend (normal usb cable, nothing fancy). I didn’t see the little icon for “remove hardware safely” so I just unplugged it. Well, an hour later I got a blue screen and my computer restarted itself. Then it kept restarting itself every 10 minutes and now I get a blue screen whenever I boot and it re-starts itself before I even get into Windows. Sometimes I get a message “Disk read failure. Press Alt+Ctrl+Del to reboot computer”.I formatted my C drive yesterday and re-installed Windows and it’s still happening. Wtf? Is it possible that a simple USB device could corrupt my entire computer like that?

I’ll bring it back to the store today for repair but I wanted to see if you guys had any idea if it could have really been caused by unplugging the camera.

think logically, how can USB cable destroy computer? influence the bios? no, affect on motherboard hardware, no? you used software.. you know that only 5 V output (+ ground and 2 for data) in USB port cable can't influency a motherboard if you think the current goes of the cable four pins.. seriusly no, it wasn't the usb.

you could use the restore back computer alternative (why format c ?).. all drivers (USB TOO) would be restored back there where windows worked.

perhaps it was by mere accident your harddrives broke in that moment when you used USB cable connector.. it could be in worst horrible case a BOOT sector error, when the sector of the discs gets damaged inside the harddrive...

bluuscrens usually take place for example when wrong drivers are installed and other problems..

    and lmao the technican.. ah...

    honestly

I remember getting my current mouse. I unplugged the old mouse and plugged the new one into the same USB port, booted the PC up, and it wouldn't get past the BIOS screen. I tried plugging the mouse into a different USB port and, voila, it worked flawlessly.

Heh. I stopped buying Microsoft mice a number of years ago after having three of the bastards end up with the left mouse button not working after a year. The build quality of Logitech stuff has been so much better in my experience, feeling solid and still working fine two or three years later.

Microsoft are insanely generous when it comes to replacing faulty mice (or they were back in the day when I had one). Having said that, I've had an MX510 & MX518 for years now and they're far better than anything I've used from MS
