mh, well as we are in the planning stage for this other hl2 mod I decided to go for another mod now. It's gonna be a Diddy Kong Racing Tribute Mod

Maybe you guys have some suggestions concerning the characters choice, that would really help me out. I really want to got for some totally cute animals, but some that haven't been included in the original game.

So basically I wanted to keep the system of Diddy Kong Racing, cause I totally enjoyed this games. The little car, the plane and the hovercraft were so different in handling that I don't wanna change this concept. I wanna make unique new levels and characters but with the same cute looks, cause I'm so into this

Anyways this is the first vehicle I did, it's not quite finished, once again I missed the most obivous...

These jet/ventilator things are not really connected to the vehicle itself, so I'll do that tomorrow, along with the second vehicle ^^

Again, if you should have some suggestions for the characters, just tell me, I'd be glad to hear some (serious) proposals.

Oh man. I've been playing DKR on an N64 emulator, and it's the bee's knees; kicks Mario Kart all over!

Good, solid model; best of luck with the mod.

Looks cool! 3000 polys is nothing for a big vehicle in a newer engine, or was that just the name? Anyways looks great!

Mario Kart 64 > Diddy Kong Racing

The only fun map was stealing eggs from the other players with those little airplanes.

    lies, FrieChamp, lies !

I could never be motivated for mario kart, but diddy kong racing made my day.

That's the only game I ever played from start to finish - well that and Solitaire

And about saving the polies. That's quite right, cause I mean in the end there will be like 8 of these things ingame and then the players with some polies as well, so that's quite heavy.

But if I wouldn't have modeled the grid/lattice it'd have 2500, so I wasted 500 polies only for that I mean that's just to show, what I wanted it to look like. Of course I'll do that with some alphaplanes...I guess.

Same goes for all these cylinders. There's plenty room for impovement concenerning the polycount, absolutely right.

But for the basic vehicle body I wanted to keep the polies, cause I wanted it to look round *runs*

Anyways I'm gonna go modeling the cart now.

Diddy Kong racing has more depth to the gameplay, and better graphics. Its total pwn!

yay, next one is "done". I'm not too sure which vehicle I should do instead of Diddy's cart, so I may do a couple of different versions and then choose the final one. We'll see. The first character should be ready tonight.

Mario Kart 64 was better than DKR and Mario Kart 64 is the worst of the lot :/

Was still a laugh with a few people, though.

super mario kart had the best battle mode as it took actual skill

super mario 64 had the best racing

mario kart double dash has good battle and good racing, but feels a bit stale now.

Yes, I have no clue about my own opinion on a game.

We had a lot more fun on the SNES version, 64 was good but it was lacking for 'party play' unless you just liked beating people to the finish line; 64 didn’t have much in the way of miracle comebacks (via power-up shortcuts), general bastard power-up usage and courses easy to fall out that make multiplayer a blast until someone slams the corner of the controller into your knee. 64 had these to a certain extent, but they seemed to be a more staged affair and more reliant on chance - you couldn't save up a power-up all race that guaranteed the train would show up on the crossing for your opponents, for example. Though you could sit there watching your opponent’s screens with a lighting power-up and a big grin on Wario’s circuit - even then making everyone fail the ramp is hilarious to you, but it’s not fun for everyone else involved (and now all DD courses have boosts on the jumps so this doesn't happen) - whereas the SNES version was mainly you just cutting corners with a feather or mushroom and swinging out in first place (risking getting a shell up your jacksee).

And DD was way too short, battle mode was dire and the super weapons just sucked; but the DD element itself just screams party play as well, and that’s what Mazza Kart is all about.

Of course, this is all multiplayer. For singleplayer karting, DKR is king.

err I think you meant to say "mario kart 64" sunshine

Anyway, me and my friends still play Mario Kart 64 and it's always good fun. I used to play lots of super mario kart for SNES but once there was MK64 there was no way I would get back again. Although I must admit the battle mode was better for the SNES. As for the racing in the cups, the 64 version is more fun imo. All the exploits and dangers you mentioned which are involved in the 64 version aren't that bad and make the game even more exciting.

Well on the N64 we much prefered Mario Party.
