I made the following texture this morning with the tool I made in just a matter of minutes ![]()
It's not my best work, but it's definitely something that would have taken me longer than thirty minutes.

Now to write a tool that generates a grid of rectangles of arbitrary shades...
Nice idea ![]()
Here's some more old-gen. There's some errors in this and the effecct's going to be a poison nova later on =)
I'm gonna recolor it too, looks like a cigarr now. It's supposed to be a maggot queen.

We'll see if I still think this looks decent in the morning:

Nice work dude ! I like the first one with the sharp cracks on.
One more time:

Still experimenting, especially with the diffuse.
I quite confused. It looks nice but also like any CG texture photo. Maybe you ought to add some interest point into your diffuse ? Some moss could add shapes and color to your rock.
I was trying to stick to my reference, which happens to be a cgtexture ![]()

I think the main problem is how I intergrated the cracks. I should have sculpted them and went from there, at the moment it's just overlayed ontop. Lesson learned though!
Using the same zbrush base as the last texture I posted. Forms in it are pretty terrible but wanted to see what I else I could do with it:

I need some quick tips how to make this texture feel more realistic, pleas any feedback will do, thx guys ![]()
thx dude,

its more like this now, but any thing else ?
(and yea, its coming with normal/spec )
You need to hide more your cavity map, it highlight edge on your texture wich isn't realistic. If you want to put a realistic highlight on your border, try to find a detail (scratch ? white stain ?) wich has the brightness you want to lighten or darken the part you want ![]()
Nice diffuse btw
Oh ! An other thing ; The transition between your peebles and your main stone is too smooth. I think you ought to add some straight sharp line with less smooth ondulation
great tips, thanks again
!
Spam bot fail. At least include the damn tips.
Doing a little Heroes of Might and Magic II homage here... there will be no easy mode, just an easier mode.
