totally random texture thread

    i finally started a project I wanted to make since february

    This is the first material I made today, I've still so trouble with specmaps

    Here is a slow one I did today. I feel like I'm getting rusty... but then again my head was killing me. (Now edited, I'm a little happier.)

    Edit: I've made quite a few changes to this and will post the revised version later. It looks better, trust me!

    Sorry the photos are a bit obnoxiously large... Does it really bother anyone?

    Thanks Chris! I'm probably going to downsize it to a 512px base diffuse and have a detail map of 256px or so. Bonus points for putting the specular in one of the channels instead of using an alpha, too. It's weird, because I am a programmer, but my art workflow is still pretty primitive like for Id Tech 3.

    My next plan is to fully learn and utilize the render to texture function in 3DS Max. Haven't found a helpful tutorial for that yet.

    the texture on the walls of 1.pic looks too noisy

    while on the 2nd pic the gaps in the metal/wood plates look unnatural as scratches and structures continue on the other side

    just did this tiny one (64²) for source engine after i realised that everything else would be wasted space

    After a couple of years without messing with anything game-related, I decided to give it a try with Photoshop and nDo2 Beta. Rendered with Marmoset.

    We've been doing some texture practice at work, trying to re-create photos by just hand-painting in Photoshop, not using any photos or textures as overlays. Here's my WIP so far (mostly worked on the bottom as you can see):

    That's actually really nice. And btw, using photos is OK as long as it's not lazy photoslapping.

    Yeah I completely agree, using photos is awesome and essential, but we are just doing this to work on our traditional painting skills and force ourselves to see how materials are up. It's fun doing hand painted stuff

    Nice !! more orange/brown like you did on the brighter brick!! that's your complementary color of the blue hue (3rd from bottom left)
